RAP VOCAL AUDITION PREPARATION
Students should reflect on the following questions:
Why do you want to be a student at St. Elizabeth High School?
What can you personally contribute to the Vocal program?
How do you think Regional Arts can help you with your future endeavours?
How did you prepare for this audition?
Do I need to know how to read music to be a part of the Regional Arts Vocal Program?
We understand that students auditioning for the Regional Arts Vocal program have varying levels of experience with music and singing. In grade 9, students start at the very beginning. They review the basics of music theory and sight singing. From there students will progress quickly into more advanced material, so it is important that students have a strong foundation in the basics.
Is there an expected level or standard of singing for each student in the Regional Arts Vocal program?
We are looking for students who have a passion for singing. We strongly encourage singers of all levels and interests to audition for our RAP.
If I do not audition for grade 9, can I audition the following years?
Yes, regardless of grade level, all students are encouraged to audition if they have a passion for singing.
Do students in the Regional Arts vocal program only study classical music? Will I be able to sing popular music?
Regional Arts vocal students are exposed to all kinds of music that spans various points in history, culture and genre. It's best to keep an open mind and all music can be enjoyable. There are also many opportunities for music students to perform popular music at St. Elizabeth’s. They have creative freedom to sing own choice solos in class and they may also audition for extra-curricular events and school-wide productions. Many students collaborate with others in the music department to make their own music groups that perform in the school and community.
