Each applicant is required to prepare a 2 to 3 minute dance solo; preferably in jazz, contemporary, ballet, lyrical, open or modern dance.
Every applicant must partake in a 45-minute group dance workshop that emphasizes ballet and jazz techniques.
When in the company of the audition panel, dancers will respond to a set of provided questions before showcasing their rehearsed solo performance.
What style of dance should I audition with?
You should choose a style that highlights your strongest dance skills. This is your time to shine and you only have two minutes to do so. Our program focuses on classical dance styles and therefore we are looking for advanced level of technique. The most successful auditions are in Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Ballet, and Open. Please ensure you bring your solo music on a phone or USB.
What should I wear to my audition?
Ballet attire is required for the audition. This includes black bodysuit, pink ballet tights, ballet shoes or Black T shirt and dance pants.
If I do not audition for grade 9, can I audition the following year for grade 10?
Yes, you can audition in grade 10, but the expectations will be slightly higher as you are now expected to be at the same level as a grade 10 student who has already completed a grade 9 Regional Arts credit in Dance.
