How do artists & designers create works of art that effectively communicate?
How do people contribute to awareness and understanding of their lives and the lives of their communities through art-making/photography?

I believe these objects and animals represent me because they describe my hobbies, sports, and my love of animals. The most important thing in the left photograph is my dog. He is almost 11 years old and has been with me since first grade, so has known me for a really long time. I love animals, especially dogs, so trying to describe who I am without an animal would be impossible. Second is my necklace, I got it from my grandmother and wear it everyday. It is simple, but important to me. Next is my boots and water bottle. I love being outside hiking, biking etc. and those things help describe that. Then there is my swim cap. I love swimming, especially in the ocean, but during the winter, the pool for swim practice will do. Second to last are the shells. I'm really interested in pursuing marine ecology or conservation biology, and the shells represent my interest in the ocean. And lastly, the books. I love reading and all of those books are about science. One is obviously a science textbook, but the others are about either science or about the people who have impacted science.
