Project Purpose:
To understand how a line can be used to create a three-dimensional form
To create a sculpture that considers balance and repetition, variety and emphasis
To learn about sculpture artists and where they find their inspiration
Reflection:
First I started with three practice rounds with the wet reed and took pictures. Then I made my final one and left it to dry. Once dry I took the pins out and glued the reed together. Finally I glued the small pieces of reed onto my piece and took a picture. The emphasis in my sculpture were the small pieces of reed near the middle. I think it shows variety because most people used paper and I didn’t do that. Also when I added my reed pieces I made sure to do it in the middle where the reed overlaps instead of on one of the loops because I wanted it to look somewhat like a flower. I didn't want to have variety on the petals (loops) because I wanted them to be similar. Also when creating it I didn’t want the loops to be the same size or in the same direction so I made sure that each loop pointed in a different direction and made them different sizes. Some loops also have little twists in them to confirm the variety. I learned from sculpture that you can use almost every material to make something and not just clay or metal. Also there are a lot of nitty gritty details for something that seems very simple.
