Purpose:
Identify key traits of Pop Art;
Use warm and cool colors effectively;
Choose fonts that express personality;
Create a pop art name design using bright colors and patterns;
Create a name design that shows quality craftsmanship.
Pop Art primarily focuses on traits such as contrast between colors and usage of busy or quiet patterns while incorporating trends or modern items. I used a combination of light orange, yellow, and green and darker pinks and purples in my name design to create a bold, eye-catching color contrast. I chose to use abstract patterns with shapes for the sections of the piece that had lighter value, and used more solid lines and stripes for the sections with darker value. I wanted to use a somewhat simple font, as I planned on using busy patterns, but still included an abstract element in the letters, being the placement of the letters, slight overlap, and some extra curve in the J and Z. I learned about the importance of contrast between colors and which colors specifically create variation in a piece when placed together. Along with this, I learned more about the color wheel and how analogous colors can also be used together to create detail and depth in particular patterns. Finally, I learned about how font and line thickness has an impact on the mood of a piece.
