Getting started in Google Classroom:
- Go to https://classroom.google.com/
- If you are new to Google Classroom it will ask if you are a student or a teacher, you should select "Teacher".
- Click on the + button and choose to join the class with the code: jw4luh
- Click on "Stream", click on the gray button "OPEN" for the PreAssignment.
- Click on the Google Doc link for the Preassignment.
- Classroom will create a copy that is just for you and has your name on it. Use this to complete your assignment.
- When you have finished your work make sure to "Turn it In" before class on June 20th.
The Preassignment is designed to get you started on the themes and ideas of this course.
- Read the ISTE Student Standards and indicators, and the Yarmouth Beliefs about Learning.
After you have read and reviewed those materials conduct the following exercise based on a recent blog post by George Couros*:
Part 1: Open the Preassignment in Classroom. Reflect on these four questions and write your responses:
- What is one thing that I did well in my classroom with technology this year?
- Where in my use of technology in my classroom do I need to grow?
- What is one thing that I will challenge myself with for next year?
- How will all of these answers impact the learners I serve?
Part 2: After you have written about these questions, start to think about how you can create a challenge for yourself for this course. Go back and look at the ISTE Standards and the Yarmouth Beliefs about Learning. Pick any standards or beliefs that tie into your challenge and describe how they will be implemented in your proposed work. Write in your post about how the learners you serve will be impacted by what you might do next year with this challenge. This challenge may not end up being your actual project for the course, but it will be a start in that direction.
