Reader’s Workshop:
We begin each workshop with a mini-lesson designed to further reading skill development. Following the mini-lesson, students are provided time to apply skills through a variety of learning structures including independent reading time, strategy groups, or one-on-one conferring with me. The skills presented during the mini-lessons are guided by our curriculum and the specific needs of the class.

S.Q.U.I.R.T:
Students’ Quiet Uninterrupted Independent Reading Time is devoted to independent reading time for students. While students are reading, I often meet with individual students, work with small groups, or guide students’ book selections.
Read Aloud:
I read aloud to students each day. We engage in classroom discussion about the text and apply comprehension strategies that complement our reader’s workshop focus. In addition, this is an opportunity to model accurate fluency. The books I select connect to our second grade curriculum with diversity being a guiding factor in my selections.
