Washington University in St. Louis
Minor in Computer Science, 4-year varsity football athlete
Senior Design Project: Computer vision for automatic detection and classification of rat exercise data for soft tissue rehabilitation research: Camera, Hall Effect Sensor, Raspberry Pi, and CNN trained using Keras engineered for automated system to assist Lake Lab.
Teaching Assistant in Data Science Course Development
Pioneered materials to help design new introductory data science course that is now offered with Associate Department Chair.
Created 15+ projects outlining the data science process from data retrieval to visualizations and backend analysis to serve as models for the course. Designed 10+ exercises explaining in-depth the tenets of data cleaning, machine learning pre-processing, and machine learning models to improve student understanding of the projects.
Utilized Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-learn, and Beautiful Soup Python packages on Kaggle to familiarize students with the most popular and user-friendly data science tools. See Kaggle projects here.
Computational Science Intern, Evozyne, Inc. Chicago, IL
Developed tools and analysis for AI-driven protein design with team of deep learning, bioinformatics, and research scientists.
Recreated published web tool with 5+ additional constraints to improve estimated ligation fidelity by 10+% and fully automate task tohelp streamline the gene assembly process. Engineered heuristic search methods in Python to drive performance of the web tool, improving computational time from a whole day to under an hour for large orders (200+ sequences).
Researched performance of alignment search tool on candidate proteins using command line tools, high-performance cluster, and Seaborn Python package to enhance efficacy of sequence curation pipeline.
Consulted with commercial team in forming a partnership with an AI and hardware company, provided insight on security considerations in sharing code base and profiling previous successful partnerships with startups.
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
KQSRP Mentor: Mentored two high school students in the Kimberly Querrey Summer Research Program (KQSRP). Led tutorials in reproducible programming, data science, visualization, and electronic health record data. Students’ work culminated in an oral presentation and poster (see posters below)
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Systems Biology codeathon liaison: Helped lead a team of computational biologists from four different institutions as the resident pneumonia health record data expert from Northwestern in a three-day codeathon for predictive modeling of pneumonia outcomes. Project titled Interpretable Multimodality Data Integration Enabled by Geometric Learning in Pneumonia.
Washington University in St. Louis
McKelvey Mentor: Served for two years as mentor for incoming biomedical engineering students while an upperclassman, organized teambuilding sessions to build community and provide insight on engineering at WashU.
Engineering Tutor: Guided individual and student groups in physics, computer science, calculus, and differential equations classes to prepare for exams, understand class material, and work through assignments.
