Two major parts of my outreach initiatives have been (i) a series “Science In The News” talks in public libraries, partnering with lifelong-learners’ programs, and (ii) a series of short talks, longer lectures, and pedagogical classes for middle and high school students, on connecting school textbook physics to astrophysics research. I have been heavily involved with outreach at LFOP. I am also a mentor at Project SHORT, as discussed below.
Science In The News (Talks in public libraries, partnering with lifelong-learners’ programs)
“Ray tracing from computers to the cosmos” (jointly with 2 PhD students from the computer science department)

“Using high-school physics to unlock the strangest mysteries of the universe” (some variation of this)
Nov 2023 – 2 pedagogical classes for high school students from Connecticut (Yale Splash initiative).
March 2021 – hour-long lecture, addressing high school students of St. Timothy’s School, Maryland.
June 2020 – Yale Pathways to Science for high school students from Connecticut. (20 minute talk)
Feb 2020 – Open Labs Exploring Science week for middle and high school students of greater New Haven area.
“What are stars made of?”, Open Labs Science Cafe talk for middle and high school students. Oct 2020
“How to weigh galaxies and why do we need to?”, Astronomy on Tap, New Haven, CT (USA). Feb 2020
“How to weigh galaxies and why do we need to?” (Invited hour-long talk) July 2020
primarily addressing undergraduates, Presidency University, Kolkata (India).
Between fall 2018 and spring 2020, I have regularly presented planetarium shows at the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium, and led numerous astronomical object-gazing sessions there, during the public nights on Tuesdays.
There is a very wide disparity in academic opportunities available to students in the global context. Being acutely aware of that, I have been a mentor at Project SHORT, a global student-led organization offering pro bono guidance regarding graduate school applications to students from underprivileged backgrounds. I am currently helping 2 students who are keen to pursue Ph.D. in astrophysics.
