Parent info & HOMEWORK!
Where to find class news and information and homework expectations.
(Updated every week)
Kowhai is an awesome class - here is the proof.
Each week we have a class meeting and our classmates make note of how each of us has been awesome. Sometimes we record it here, sometimes it is displayed in our class to remind us.
Homework
You are expected to read and practise maths and spelling most nights of the week.
Yep, really!
Term 2 Onward:
Weekly Oral Language
Reporting
Each week you will need to find/prepare something to report to our class about. It should only take 1-3 minutes at most.
Term 4:
Week 2: Election Manifesto
Week 1: News etc
You belong to a spelling group that will have the same words as you to practise. It is your responsibility to practise these words at least 3 nights before the test on Friday.
Your group and list can be found on the Spelling Page.
There are lots of ways you can learn these.
Write them out on paper, in sand, with a brush and water.
Make them out of letters form a magazine, on the fridge.
Spell them out loud so your brain hears them.
We will all have a Basic Facts level we are working at. Most of us will have a certain set of facts we should be learning and practising.
Addition, Make Ten, Facts to 20 and Subtraction Practise Games
Our Current class focus is: using place value to solve problems with 2-4 digit numbers.
It is really important for us all to read or be read to for 10-20 minutes every night. This helps with vocabulary and syntax learning. If we get to talk about the book with someone this really helps our comprehension.
If we are reading it ourselves, it should be a book at a level easy enough that we can enjoy reading it (use the 5 finger rule) Our Teacher(s) will try to make sure we have something suitable from the library.
Our Library day is Monday.
We are going to have Book Loops this year, a bit like you had with Ms Dods. You will need to have an interesting book you are reading to share with your group.
Parents: This is to encourage the children to read their library book (or another chapter book/novel) every night so they can share something new most weeks and have something to discuss with their group and then make a recommendation.
