Analogue

The Children of Blood and Bone is analogous to Nazi Germany before and during the Holocaust. During this time, Jewish people were facing oppression from many sources. Violence against Jews was overlooked, and people were often not punished for it. New legislation prevented Jews from going to certain schools or practicing medicine. Many people would stand outside of Jewish businesses to prevent people from coming in. Jews were also forced to live in ghettos, impoverished communities where food was scarce and living conditions were inhumane. As hatred escalated, Nazi camps were established, and Jewish men, women, and children were taken there for forced labor and mass killings.

All of these experiences define Nazi Germany as a dystopia. For Jewish people and many others, life was as bad as possible. They were oppressed by the government and had little to no power over how they lived their lives. Just living life as a Jewish person puts you at risk for death.
