SCHOOL DESCRIPTION

Pla de les Vinyes School is a Primary School located in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, a village near Barcelona. The school serves the village and admits pupils from the full ability range. In our school there are pupils aged between 3 and 12 years old.

We work through a methodology based on projects. We pretend the pupils become the main actors of their learning developing strategies of autonomy, creativity and cooperation. Besides, this way of working provides equal opportunities for all the students independently their levels, beliefs or culture. The main purpose of the school is the pupils become competent citizens.

Our motivation to participate in this project is because we have the certification of “Green school”, that’s Eco school. Since that moment the school introduced different projects and participated in different programmes focused on environmental issues. There is a group of students called “The Green Patrol” formed by a representative of each class from 5 to 12 years old. At the meeting they discuss and decide measures to improve the environment: recycling, energy savings, green corners and so on. During the year pupils realize different activities where they develop an ecologist conscious. Example of their work: build bird houses for the birds of the village, take the rubbish from the beach, and recycle school paper, oil, plastic. At the school some experts come to do activities in order to control the noise contamination, also the temperature and energy savings. Our school is located between the beach, the Llobregat river and the mountains. For this reason pupils are used to develop activities in all places.
