Day of European Authors
On March 27th, the European Union celebrates the first ever Day of the European Authors. This initiative tries to promote reading and writing in schools around Europe and fosters European literary heritage.
As part of our Erasmus+ project, which is related to ART, we chose extracts from well-known literary pieces in different languages.
Anna and Paula chose the poem Art, by Marc Freixas, written in Catalan.
Guillem and Roser chose Don Quijote de la Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes, the greatest Spanish novel of all times.
Ruth and Júlia decided to read a quote in English from Alexandra Timmer, a Dutch writer and professor who wrote about Vincent Van Gogh.
Nora and Gerard read the first chapter of Le Petit Prince, a French novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Andrea and Saínza chose Faust, a play by Goethe, written in German.
Lucía and Iria chose Macacos, a comedy poem written in Portuguese by Sidónio Muralha.
But, apart from the Erasmus+ team, other people took part in the Day of the European Authors.
We had three local authors giving a speech and reading part of their creations.
The students of the Drama class participated reading a scene from Midsummer Night's Dream from William Shakespeare, both in Catalan and English.
And the students in the Welcome Class read an extract of Alice in Wonderland in Catalan, proving everyone their huge improvements with the language!

A translator and author of children's books and novels, Francesc Strino, read one of the tales he translated and explained his experience with a banned book in the USA.
We finished the Day of the European Authors having breakfast together, exchanging books and giving feedback.
Above all, we can conclude that learning languages and literature belong together.
