Steps

Preparing the English day

Teachers, this year we propose you to create a collaborative interactive World map with lots of different houses and some information about them.

In order to have it, we need to create trading cards. How?

Each school will design a card about a different type of house/building. You need to choose one from this list. Write the name of your school next to the type of house. Once you have done it, no one can choose it again.

Once you have booked your card, read the instructions where you will find a link to the template.

Save the slide with the name of the type of house and the school’s name (Palace_CRP).

Then upload it to the shared Google Drive folder.

We meet on the 17th January 13.00h via Google Meet

Preparing the English day II

Once you have decided which level/levels are going to participate in the English Day, you have to prepare some activities so that students become familiar with the vocabulary and sustainability.

To do that we suggest:

Memory

EI/ CI/CM/CS/ESO: Memory to macth cards of houses with cards of houses and the material they are build with. We will provide the cards to print and you will choose the ones that better suite your students.

Preparing the Memory: we will provide you with 2 templates, one for the image of your trading card building with its name and another one for the same image and the main materials used for building it up.

Sustainability (SDG 11,12)

CM/CS/ESO: Check list.

Past and future: ESO.

Have a look at the Ideas & Resources page.

Model

You also need to think about what type of construction your students will make:

Building a house (for example an igloo made of plastic bottles)

Making a model house using toy construction bricks, plasticine…

It is a good oportunity to practice how to describe a building, vocabulary and to talk about sustainability.

Have a look at the Ideas & Resources page.

English Day Song: To sing at the beginning of the day with all the students. You’ll find them at the song page. For elder students: you can discuss the roles in the family that appear in the song (SDG 5).

Preparing a dossier: We will need a dossier for the 15th March, so that the students work through the contents in the trading cards. To have it prepared we are going to do a collaborative list of questions by age group. We will share a document to complete and you will be given information to do it.

During the day

Start the day singing the English Day song and watching carefully the video presentation.

Then hand out a dossier with the activities they need to get the answer from the traiding cards in the world map.

When the students come back to the class, while you are talking about the activity you can also make them realize about the differences in the houses between rich and poor areas (SDG 10).

Let your students visit the exhibition. They can vote for the favourite model/house.

Do not forget to take pictures or record the activities of the Day.

After the day

  • Send us a selection of pictures of the English Day ongoing by a link to your school web/sites/youtube... to crp-anoia@xtec.cat.

  • Send us a collage with the selection of the favourite houses/models that the students have built.
