XP Doncaster Student Showcase

11 October 2022 I 4:30 - 6:30pm

Thank you for registering your interest in attending our annual XP Doncaster Student Showcase. This evening provides an exciting opportunity to find out about the amazing things that happen each day in our fantastic schools. It also provides an opportunity to understand what life is really like for students at XP and XP East.

Please watch the videos below, either before or after your visit, before making the final decision about your secondary school. It is important that this decision is the right one for you.

Myth-busting: What are XP schools really like?

Although many believe we are, XP Schools are not special schools. Our schools are challenging places to learn and we expect the very best from our students. Andy Sprakes, our Chief Academic Officer, explains more about the realities of XP Schools and dispels some of the myths surrounding our innovative approach. This is a must watch for all prospective students and their families.

What is Crew?

Crew is the foundations of XP Schools. It's how we hold our students to account and push them to be the best versions of themselves. In Crew, students reflect on their academic performance, their character traits and are challenged where they are not being the best versions of themselves.

There is no hiding in crew - you can't just be a passenger. In fact, there is no hiding anywhere at XP.

Expeditionary learning

Academic rigour is at the heart of our curriculum. Our students are pushed to understand and engage with high quality texts, become activists and make an impact on the world around them.

Students engage with GCSE content early, are active learners and work hard to get smart in every lesson. Mediocrity is not accepted.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? is an example of this.

Character traits

Character traits form a fundamental part of our 3-Dimensional Approach. We want students to become the best versions of themselves and develop their character with as much focus as they develop academically.

Our focus on character traits is relentless. This can be tough for students as they are constantly asked to reflect on themselves as a person and whether they are showing each of these traits.

When they don't show these traits, students are given time to reflect on their actions, they apologise publicly to their school community and make a pledge to improve in the future.

Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLs)

At XP Doncaster, we expect all students to 'Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind'. These are our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLs).

Students are challenged on this in each and every session, reflect on their HOWLs in Crew and hold each other to account in community meetings around their HOWLs and Character Traits.
