The impact of WW2 on Germany can be split into 2 phases. The first phase was about how life changed for the German people in the first successful years of the War. The move to a war economy meant that the Nazis tried to control the economy even more tightly. It also brought shortages to the German people. there was also a debate about whether women should move into war industries and work in factories, as in Britain. The German people also began to experience bombing and evacuations. Many parents were however reluctant to let their children be evacuated, especially to "camps" ran by the Hitler Youth. Only 40,000 children from Berlin were evacuated out of a total of 260,000.
