GCSE Business Studies

Why do businesses exist?

Most businesses have the same main objective, to make a profit, without a profit the business will go bankrupt and will have to close down. Businesses also have other objectives besides making a good profit, they may also aim to be the biggest in their market, try to sell the highest quality, aim to maximise sales and wealth creation other things cover expanding the business.

There are businesses though that don't aim to earn a profit these are called non-profit and are usually charities or they could be public sector, meaning they have to cover enough income. Others may want to achieve social objectives i.e. providing help for the homeless, this is social enterprise.
