Help your child to come up with a revision timetable and plan that is manageable. Remember spaced practice is better than cramming.
Check that your child is sticking to their revision timetable, or when they are not able to, that they make up the time.
Help to get your child used to working for 1 and a half hours without music or their phone.
Watch the news or read the news with your child. The recent wildfires in California serve as a clear example of climate change, which we will cover in lessons, albeit briefly. Engaging in discussions with your child at home will help deepen their understanding of this important issue.
Encourage them to ‘talk like a geographer’ by asking thought-provoking questions about the world around them. While walking along the coast, challenge them to explain how beaches are formed. During a shopping trip in Newcastle, ask if they enjoy living in the city and why. Discuss the natural hazards we face in the UK and their potential impacts. The opportunities are endless—geography is everywhere!
