The SWFL Alpha Educational & Leadership Foundation Inc. (“Foundation”) is organized exclusively for the charitable, educational, and literary purposes of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Xi Omicron Lambda Chapter (“Members”). The Foundation accomplishes its work primarily through the efforts of the Members who also serve as the Board of Directors. The SWFL Alpha Educational and Leadership Foundation was created and incorporated on October 7, 2015 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
Since its inception, through the generosity and support of the SWFL community, the Foundation has been able to provide over $11,000 in scholarships to deserving high school scholars throughout Lee County. The students who received the scholarships are attending various institutions of higher learning in pursuit of a higher education.
To provide support, funding and assistance for the educational and mentoring programs of the Xi Omicron Lambda Chapter. The goal is to raise educational achievement and awareness of the youth within the community and ensure that they have an opportunity to reach their educational and career aspirations.
The Foundation conducts two major programs under a national initiative created by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. called Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College. This was established in 1922, by then General President S.S. Booker, the program focuses on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to personal advancement. Under the Go-To-High-School, Go-To-College initiative, the Foundation has created a scholarship program which provide scholarships to high school student who seek to advance their educational aspirations. Also, created a mentorship program called “Bother to Brother” which focuses on mentoring the young men within the communities we serve.
The Foundation grants scholarships to high school seniors each year. Scholarship(s) will be granted annually in the spring of each year prior to the graduation of high school seniors. The Foundation raises money for its scholarship program through charitable donations from individuals and businesses in the community.
