Celebrating XMS80 : Our Legacy, Our Journey, Our Aspirations
As part of VIA Day, students, teachers parents came together to conduct heartfelt dialogue and game sessions with the residents of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THK). This meaningful engagement allowed the Xinmin community to live out our school motto — Strive. Excel. Serve. The various XMS stakeholders including our volunteers, strived to plan engaging activities, excelled in building genuine connections, and served with compassion and respect. Through this intergenerational exchange, our volunteers not only brought joy to the elderly but also grew in empathy, responsibility, and community spirit. It was a powerful reminder of how service can unite generations and nurture character beyond the classroom.
In celebration of XMS80, our students will design eye-catching posters using Canva to promote their Homecoming booths and activities. This extension initiative invites our students to exercise their creativity and collaborate meaningfully as they prepare to welcome alumni, former teachers, and the wider Xinmin family. These posters will be featured on a dedicated XMS80 Homecoming microsite, giving visitors a vibrant and engaging preview of what to expect. More than just a marketing effort, this platform showcases how our students have grown in confidence, creativity, and communication—capturing the essence of 80 years of Xinmin pride and spirit.
Mother Tongue Department
As part of the Mother Fortnight programme, students from Secondary 1 to 5 took part in a meaningful activity to tie traditional Chinese knots. These handcrafted knots will be featured in the door gifts prepared for guests attending the upcoming Gala Dinner. This initiative embodies the spirit of our makers culture while honouring Chinese traditions—where knot-tying is seen as a symbol of unity, good fortune, and longevity. Through their craftsmanship, students have contributed to a culturally rich and heartfelt gesture that will be shared with all who join us in celebrating this special occasion.
In the image above, students are seen creating acrylic art pieces, a visual expression of their pride and aspirations for the school’s 80th anniversary. Through such meaningful integration, subjects like Art and Character & Citizenship Education, along with co-curricular activities such as Media Club, Art Club, Student Leadership bodies, come together to foster a sense of belonging and school spirit. These experiences not only allow students to showcase their creativity but also provide an authentic platform to reflect on the significance of past milestones and envision their role in shaping the future of Xinmin.
