We are excited to have you and your students join us on Saturday, March 9, for the State Individual Contest! We're working hard to help ensure the day goes smoothly.
The school building will be open at 7:00 A.M. on the morning of contest, and all Centers will start at 8:00 A.M. We should be finishing up for the day around 5:00 P.M. Ratings will be posted in the gym.
Please have students enter through the Activities/Gym entrance at the east end of the school building. Students can utilize the gym when not performing, but please leave video game systems, musical instruments, sporting equipment, etc. at home. Please have spectators enter through the main entrance of the building.
There is a bus driver's lounge provided in the Novak Room (in the southeast section of the building). We ask that buses drop students in the East parking lot, then park in the East parking lot, away from the entrance.
When you arrive, please check in at the contest office, which is upstairs in the school Library. Remember, also, that the office is a no-performer zone.
Suggested donation at the doors is $3.00. Programs can be purchased for an additional $2.00.
There will be breakfast and lunch options available in the school cafeteria. You can also get candy and beverages there throughout the day. Check out the menu options!
Please make use of the concession stand. As we all know, it's one of the reasons we can afford to host.
Please note that all food and drink should remain in the cafeteria or gym, and please have students clean up after themselves!
Schedule
Please call or email me if you're having any trouble determining your school codes.
There is a "live" version with any updates posted here on the website. You can send me drops, and I'll do my best to keep the schedule up-to-date. We can also handle drops on the day of contest.
Please remind students and parents that Centers could run ahead of schedule due to drops. It's best to be early!
Accommodations
As a reminder, if you have events that require use of a computer, projector, speakers, or other equipment, it is your responsibility to supply them. We will have AV carts and extension cords available for our Reviewing and Expository Address Centers.
Don't forget your comment sheets! If you do find yourself in need, however, please see us in the high school office, and we can help out.
Sturdy chairs are provided for all necessary performance areas. We'll also provide podiums and tables where necessary. Remind students that they should absolutely move these things out of the performance space if they don't want or intend to use them. We'll also provide a stool for Storytelling, but you may bring your own. You can see some Center images and details in that link above.
If you need access to a medical professional or an administrator, come to the speech contest office.
Coach Reminders
Please remind your students, parents, and other guests about contest etiquette. Our halls are rather narrow and can get noisy, so we ask for everyone's cooperation in helping control voice levels, especially near Centers. This includes post performance celebrations. Please wait and celebrate in the gym.
We'd also appreciate your help in making sure that any trash and extra items are picked up in the gym before you head home. Extra trash cans will be placed in the gym to assist with this.
As always, cell phones need to be turned off or completely silenced in all Centers. Also, please remind parents and spectators (or everyone) that pictures and videos are expressly forbidden without the magic email from Stacy at IHSSA.
If you have other questions, please contact us!
We're looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, March 9.
We welcome you all with open arms!
