CHEM CRUISE #1
We hosted Prof. Arnab Dutta (IIT Bombay) for our maiden Chem Cruise Guest Lecture on Recent Developments in Molecular Catalysts-driven Small Molecule Activation. His talk emphasised on drawing inspiration from existing catalytic biological systems and trying to smartly replicate and improve upon the processes using synthetic catalysts. The catalysts he and his research group are building in their lab are instrumental in economically and efficiently synthesising green hydrogen fuel.
CHEM CRUISE #2
We hosted Prof. Prasenjit Ghosh (IIT Bombay) for our second Chem Cruise Guest Lecture on Designing Novel Metallopharmaceuticals for Chemotherapeutic Applications. His talk touched upon the gravity of cancer as a deadly disease further moving on to a type of therapy and existing chemotherapeutic agents. After having established a foundation, he talked about research that he and his research group carried out on non-platinum-based metallopharmaceuticals over the course of the last two decades leading to the formulation of a patented novel chemotherapeutic agent built completely in India.
CHEM CRUISE #3
We hosted our alumnus and former chairperson of XAC Ms. Bonobithi Biswas for our third Chem Cruise Guest Lecture on Conservation: A Rendezvous of Art, Science and History. Her talk introduced an unheard-of application of chemistry in conserving art which left many in the audience in fascination. She shared her own experiences while working a renowned art museum in Belgium. She briefly touched the works of Rubens and even ancient Indian architecture to explain the importance of art conservation and its utility in the modern era
CHEM CRUISE #4
We hosted Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar (TIFR Mumbai) for our fourth Chem Cruise Guest Lecture on Role oF Fundamental Science to develop self-reliant Carbon Dioxide utilization technology using solar energy and green hydrogen. His talk began BY elucidating the major concerns due to global warming and possible ways to mitigate the same. He went on to introduce the audience to the fascinating world of nanomaterials with a mind-opening interactive session explaining the change in properties at the nanoscale. He went on to elaborate on his work on economical metal-based catalysts for applications in carbon utilization.
