Career Guidance Talk by Prof. Ullhas Karkanis and Prof. Parag Mahulikar
XAC- hosted a series of sessions related to career options available for the science students. On September 18, 2018, the first of this series was conducted which focused on ‘pharma and healthcare sector’, including all the related job opportunities and was titled ‘Healthcare & Pharma Management.’ Prof. Parag Mahulikar, (Dean of Academics and marketing specialist) and Prof. Ulhas Karkhanis, (Associate Dean- Pharma and health), IES MCRC guided the students on how to choose a career based on one’s interests and capabilities. They also talked about qualities and qualifications that a company or a recruiter seeks in a candidate. The event witnessed a huge audience, 155 of whom were students.
Guest Lecture - 'Chemical Nature of Organic Compounds' by Prof. Piyush Singh
On September 19, 2018, a lecture by Prof. Piyush Singh on the topic "Chemical Nature of Organic Compounds" was organised and 140 students attended the talk. Prof. Piyush Singh is the faculty of Chemistry at St. Xavier's High School and Junior College, Nerul. The session included getting in-depth knowledge of basic concepts of organic chemistry like hyperconjugation, inductive effect, resonance, acidity and basicity of organic compounds and chemistry in daily life.
'Many faces of Organic Chemistry' by Prof. Mahesh K Lakshman
A talk was given by Prof. Mahesh K. Lakshman, fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and faculty member of Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in City College of New York, on the topic "The many faces of Organic Chemistry: From Methods to Mechanisms to Applications" which focused on the importance of chemistry in STEM field, connectivity and feedback from chemistry to other fields and the value of organic chemistry in contemporary life along with development of new methods and mechanisms to develop new techniques.
Adventurous Trek to Nakhind
The annual XAC trek took place on August 19, 2018, with an adventure-filled boisterous trip to Nakhind, a popular trail in Maharashtra. Ex-students Sijo George and Akshay Gautam helped XAC as trek guides for this activity in which 40 students participated. Dr. (Fr.) Roy Pereira and Prof. Himanshu Gupta along with Fr. Savio and Br. Vivian accompanied the students.
Ice Breaking Session
The ice-breaking session was a cheerful interactive session between the new-comer FYs and senior members of XAC to help the new ones settle in college, find friends, and most importantly, understand the legacy of XAC and carry it forward. Various games along with humorous discussion made the evening a joyful one.
