Stat Storm Winner 2008

2005 – 2006

  • Ms. Shriya Bubna from the Economics–Statistics combination stood first at the TYBA exam with 81.83%.

  • Ms. Deepika Sharma and Ms. Preeti Arya stood 8th and 10th with 87.38% and 87.0% respectively at the TYBSc exam.

  • This year at the SUC exhibition our students presented two models. Students of the TYBSc presented the probability of a person catching a Virar Local from Andheri, during peak hours and estimating the same if the track capacity quadruples. The SYBSc students presented a project on Sensex and Trade Analysis. These presentations were much appreciated and was specially reported in the media for its relevance in today’s world.

2007 – 2008

  • Ms. Isha Zaveri, Ms. Neha Grover and Ms. Riya Vaidya, from the Economics–Statistics combination stood 8th and 10th at the TYBA exam.

  • Ms. Neha Joshi and Ms. Niyati Jalaria stood First and Third with 94% and 92% respectively at the TYBSc exam.

  • Ms. Sanica Menezes and Ms. Vinita Sivaramakrishnan of T.Y.BSc. won the First place at the National Level Statistical Quiz (STATS–STORM) conducted at the International conference on Statistics and Applications in OR, hosted by RTM, Nagpur University.

2008 – 2009

  • Ms. Tanvi Singhal stood 2nd in the University and 1st in the College with 83% at the T.Y.B.A. examination.

  • Ms. Sanica Menezes topped the college with 91% at the T.Y.B.Sc. examination.

  • Ms. R. Madhura, Ms. Suvecha Sengupta and Ms. Nehali Mhatre of S.Y.BSc. won the First place at the inter-collegiate Poster Making Competition, conducted by Sankheyki at N.M.I.M.S. Their poster displayed the ‘Statistical Aspects of Clinical Trials’

  • Keeping in tune, with ‘Small is beautiful’ the theme of Mosaic - the interdepartmental exhibition conducted in our College, our students put up presentations on the ‘6-sigma limits’, on ‘Small sample tests’ comparing the consistency of the performance of batsmen, and on the analysis of clinical trials on a ‘small sample of guinea pigs’.

2009 – 2010

  • Mr. Shikhar Sethi stood 9th in the University and 5th in the College at the T.Y.B.A examination.

  • This year we arranged the intercollegiate Seminar and Project Competition ‘Sankheyki’ at our college. Our students Ms. Velcia Furtado, Ms. Shanthi Saseedharan (S.Y.BSc.) and Ms. Deepika Patil (ex student) won the Second place, and Mr. Nishant Nadkarni, Ms. Prerna Aasija (T.Y.B.A) and Ms. Komal Agarwal (S.Y.B.Sc) won the Third place at this competition.

2010 - 2011

  • Ms. Garima Narula and Ms. Ahana Rao from the Economics–Statistics combination stood 2nd with 86.5% and 4th and 83.67% respectively at the TYBA University exam.

  • Ms. Nehali Mathre and Ms. Madhura R. stood 2nd and 9th with 94.25% and 91.38% respectively at the TYBSc University exam.

2011 - 2012

  • Our student Ms. Shanthi Sreedharan secured 91.6% at the T.Y.B.Sc University examinations.

  • First issue of the annual magazine of the department ‘The Plot’.

  • The ‘Stats Society’, the student body of the Department of Statistics was established.

  • Ms. Anwesha and Mr. Indivar from T.Y.B.Sc secured 2nd place and Ms. Shruti Suresh and Ms. Taanya Khare of S.Y.B.Sc secured 4th place at the Quiz competition held by Sankhyiki at N.M College.

  • Ms. Sangeeta and Ms. Sheeja of S.Y.B.Sc were awarded 2nd prize in the poster making competition at Statistica held by Jhunjhunwala College.

  • At Statsxplo of Somaiya College, our students Mr. Abhimanyu and Mr. Sachin of S.Y. B.Sc won the 1st prize in Quiz. Mr. Abhimanyu, Mr. Kartik, Mr. Sachin, Mr. Shaurya, Mr. Surbhi of S.Y. B.Sc were awarded the 1st prize in the Project competition and Mr. Sayok and Ms. Anwesha of T.Y.B.Sc came 1st in T-shirt painting.

2012 - 2013

  • Ms. Meghatrisa Chatterjee secured the 3rd rank, while Ms. Jeslyn Pinto and Ms. Madhuvarsha Chatterjee secured the 5th rank and Mr. Indranil Rath and Ms. Anwesha Chakraborty stood 9th at the TYBSc University examination. Ms. Meghatrisa Chatterjee stood 2nd in Statistics in the list of subject wise toppers.

  • Ms. Nikita Jagtiani secured 7th rank at the TYBA University exam.

  • ‘Xstatic’ our Department’s first intercollegiate festival was organized by the Stats Society on 7 September.

  • Ms. Aakansha Sharma, Ms. Barnali Mishra and Ms. Devyani Vinekar won the second prize for her presentation on ‘Corruption in India’ at The S.I.E.S. College of Science Arts and Commerce.

2013 - 2014

  • Abhimanyu Singh and Karthik Verma topped the TYBSc Statistics exams

  • They secured the overall second and third ranks respectively in the College exams.

  • Amrita topped the TYBA exams in Statistics.


2014 - 2015

  • Ms. Nikhila Nair topped the TYBSc Statistics exams

  • Ms. Thayyil Pooja Christine topped the TYBA exams in Economics-Statistics

  • The Stats-Society organized the intercollegiate festival Xstatic on 10 and 11 September 2014

2015 - 2016

  • Mr. Mahikaansh Reddy of TYBSc topped Statistics with the highest CGPA

  • Ms. Arpita Shah topped the TYBSc exam

  • Ms. Shiksha Gupta topped the TYBA (Economics-Statistics)

2016 - 2017

  • Ms. Gauri Kamat topped Statistics at the TYBSc exam.

  • Mr. Nimit Parikh (Eco-Stats) topped TYBA exam.

  • Confluence ’17, an inter-disciplinary seminar was organized jointly by the Statistics and Mathematics Departments, for the first time, on 16 - 17 January 2017 with assistance from the Stats Society. The theme of the seminar was ‘Relevance of Maths & Stats in the Real world’

2017 - 2018

  • The Stat Society organized the flagship festival of the Statistics Department ‘XStatic (Off the Charts)’ on 29 - 30 November.

  • The Statistics Blog Statisquowas initiated by our S.Y.B.Sc student Ms. Aleya Choudhary and her team

  • The Departments of Statistics organized Confluence ’18 in conjunction with the Departments of Botany and Zoology, with the theme ‘Statistics for Biologists’. The Department was ably supported by the Stats Society.

2018 - 2019

  • TYBSc students: Ms. Trishala Misra, Ms. Srividya Ganapathi, Ms. Girika Bhalla and TYBA students: Mr. Sreekar Challa & Ms. Charu Agarwal, attended the National Stats Day programme on 29 June at the NSSO office in New Mumbai and won prizes at the events conducted there.

  • SYBSc students (Mr. Sudhansu Agarwal & Mr. Mohit Kumar) attended the National Stats Day festivities at KC College and won various prizes.

  • On 16 February our SYBSc students (Ms. Shruti Mukherjee, Mr. Stephin George & Mr. Sudhansu Agarwal) participated in the intercollegiate Statistics Poster Presentation competition at R.J. College of Science & Commerce.

2019 - 2020

  • The Department introduced Xavier's Statistics Day for the first time on 24th January 2019. An Exhibition of Posters showcased the Project work done by students of all classes through the year. Several Statistics based games were conducted adding to the excitement and grand success of the event.
