A student organisation under the department of economics consisting of Class Representatives from each class committed to being instrumental in connecting students with the department through various department activities and events.

The Annual Economics Seminar at Khandala

The Annual paper-presentation event organized at the college villa in Khandala is attended by students of Xavier’s Mumbai as well as students of exchange-program from various Jesuit colleges in the country. This year’s theme for the seminar was "The Tipping Point".

Students prepare a research paper under the guidance of the editors of the Seminar team and go through a 3 months long procedure to finally present it in the seminar.

The Arthiniti

The Annual Journal (ISO certified) of the Department of Economics which publishes research papers that are selected through a rigorous procedure for selection. The writers are given guidance by the editors of the Arthiniti and professors of the department. The theme for the Arthiniti for the year 2019-20 is "Disruptions"

The Arthiniti committee has also delved into engaging with its audience through modern techniques such as podcasts under its series name "Can you see it?"

Economics Declassified

EcoTree (as a part of the Eco-Circle) is an effort to give a platform for the lovers and enthusiasts of Economics (Inclusive) to voice out their opinions by conducting monthly discussions. EcoTree, as a committee aspires to conduct healthy discussions on topics of relevance for the local, national and the world economy which would fall under a pre-decided theme assigned to each month. The discussions would also get a greater platform to disseminate the knowledge through its digital newsletter ‘Bird’s Eye’ to be published monthly.

  2. La Fin? – Recess for India’s Economic Growth – November-December 2019

EcoTree has so far conducted the following events:

  1. Panel Discussion on the prospect of the Real Estate sector in India organised in association with the Eco-Circle on 30 August 2019. Panellists included representatives from the government, financial sectors, realty sectors and also professionals.

  2. Student discussion on The current economic slowdown in India on 21 November 2019.

  3. Panel Discussion on "The Dichotomy of the Crisis". The discussion was panelled in a way to provide economic as well as political views for the current economic situation of the country:

  • Prof. Agnelo Menezes, Economics Professor and Ex-Principal, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai

  • Prof. Shazia Shaikh, Associate Professor of Political Economy, Department of Political Science

Newsletter Bird's Eye: EcoTree publishes a monthly newsletter on the given theme of the month. The newsletter has articles written by the members of the club and also includes information about the department.

Declassified is the Official Blog of the Economics Circle of the St. Xavier's College (Mumbai)

Its purpose will be to serve as a one-stop shop for everything economics; containing everything from links to other interesting blog posts, roundups of ‘currency’ affairs, excerpts from articles, explanations of challenging things we learn in class and of course, pieces written by both students and faculty.
