FIRE UPDATE: 9/10/2026
Very light initial attack activity across the state yesterday, even with Red Flag Warning conditions.
West Fork Fire: This 0.1 acre fire is located well within the Weiser Knoll fire footprint. The fire is located in a riparian area with no evident cause. A property owner saw the smoke and reported it. USWFS and Fremont Co. responded and contained the fire. Due to the location and lack of obvious cause, the BLM has called out a fire investigator who will be there today. This fire is on State land with BLM about 10 yards away.
Cow Camp Fire: Washakie County, Private, and BLM Lands; 243 acres (updated with more accurate mapping), 76% contained, EFSA fire. Fire will transition to a Type 4 organization at the end of shift tomorrow. Several resources being released from Cow Camp have been reassigned to the Moonshine Fire. Remaining resources will patrol to ensure the lines are secure. The Pronghorn WFM will be released today, go into days off, and then become available again. Gannett Peak WFM will be released from the fire tomorrow, take normal days off, and become available on Monday.
Moonshine Fire: Albany and Platte Counties, BLM, State, and private lands; 3,455 acres, 0% contained, EFSA fire for both Albany and Platte Counties. A total of 128 personnel are assigned. Currently, 77% of the fire has burned on private and state lands. The Wyoming Type 3 team has set up its Incident Command Post (ICP) at the Platte County Fairgrounds in Wheatland.
Fire activity increased in the afternoon as the fire advanced downhill above structures along the Cooney Hill Rd., resources utilized mechanical (dozer) lines and initiated firing operations to bring the fire down to the established control lines, securing the east/southeast portion of the fire.
A total of 5 Interagency Handcrews are assigned to the fire. Five structures and grazing allotments are listed as threatened. In addition to the crews, 5 helicopters and 6 engines are assigned. Critical needs include Large Airtankers (LATs), Single Engine Airtankers (SEATs), Helicopters, Crews and Engines.
Wyoming State Forestry's SEATs and Helicopters have assisted with suppression efforts. Wyoming Department of Homeland Security is providing communications support to the incident.
Planned actions for today are for the crews to use direct handline along the south portion of the fire where most of the values at risk are located. Structure protection will remained in place through last night staffed mostly by local county and fire district resources who continued to mop up and secure structures. Map is attached, along with today's IAP.
Wyoming will have Red Flag Weather conditions throughout the state again today.
