NEW - Wyoming has instituted regulations and application process for Private Fire Prevention and Qualified Insurance Approved Resources. Regulations & Application
FIRE UPDATE: 7/17/2026
Prospect Fire: 1.13 acres, Bighorn National Forest, south of Meadow Lark Lodge/Ski area, Washakie County. Aviation resources including a Forest Service Type 1 helicopter (Black Hawk), two Wyoming SEATs, and an air attack platform assisted ground resources in stopping forward progression. With aviation assistance, ground resources including the Gannett Peak Module, engines from the Ten Sleep Volunteer Fire Department, Wildland Fire Service resources, and Bighorn National Forest fire crews were able to work directly on the fire and establish a containment line. Gannett Peak Module camped on the fire overnight, and will continue to increase containment depth and mop-up operations throughout the next two shifts. The fire received some light precipitation overnight.
MM 161 Fire: Sweetwater County, .10 acre BLM Jurisdiction. 100% contained and controlled.
Spark Fire: Crook County, .25 acre private land.100% contained.
Medicine Lodge Fire: Big Horn County, .10 acre of BLM land. 100% contained
Elk Ridge Fire: Sublette County, .10 acres Bridger Teton National Forest. Forward Progression stopped, staffed by Bridger Teton engines again today to complete containment & suppression
