Welcome back to the STEAM Lab! This week the students that didn't get to go to the MakerSpace table and use the OzoBots to code an "emergency route" out of their house in case of a fire will get to do that!
The others will be introduced to the website, StarFall, where we will go over the short "a" sound using the story Zac the Rat as an example. Those that can go a little farther can listen to the other short vowel stories found on the website. This website is a lot of fun for the Kindergartners and they love interacting with the stories.
Last week was Fire Prevention Week, a national event celebrated this year from October 9-15th, 2022. This week in the STEAM Lab we will continue to discuss how to be safe during a fire by creating an "emergency plan" to use at home. First students will be given markers to draw a route that they can take from their house to an outside location. This is the place they will meet up with their family in case of a fire.
Once students are done with their pictures, they will have the OzoBots follow their coded route. While 5 people are at the MakerSpace table, the others will play Fire Safety games found at https://www.sparky.org/games or Brigade Kids. Other choices for games to play can be found at Room Recess.
