Our first step in the reading group was to decide how many pages we would read a day. We decided to go by chapters, instead of pages and that works for me because I hate stopping in the middle of the chapter. It is like leaving an ice cream sandwich half eaten!
Mrs Hill showed us what Roles we would be doing in the reading group. I was overwhelmed by all the choices! I was happy when I was able to get Word Police for my first Role because I love words!
I found three new words and shared them during our reading group. I needed help with one of the definitions. My classmates helped! This group can be loud and talkative, but they are nice.
My name was drawn as the illustrator for this next week. Here is what I drew:
We just finished the book and it was amazing! We have an edible book report coming up so I am going to bake a cake or maybe brownies in the shape of Rain. What a wonderful dog!
Here is a Powtoon that I made about the book and this project!
I was nervous at first being in a reading group. I was able to keep up with the reading and do my Roles, but I it was sometimes difficult to share my ideas in discussion. This shows that I am a strong reader, but sometimes have some difficulty sharing my ideas out loud.
In this project I learned more about how to talk about a book with other people. I also learned more about Autism because of what the main character was like. For my next reading group my goal will be to get more involved in the discussion. I will also keep track while I read to be able to find the main idea and then draw and write about it.
