“Ugh, worst summer ever," David said, as he kicked at piece of trash lying on the ground. He hadn't realized that you don't know what you have until it's gone. He was having the worst summer ever because his friends had left for summer camp or to go on vacation. Dave Ryker was 14, he was average height, and he had black hair that was pushed to the side. His hair was short, and he wore an athletic shirt and shorts. He had to walk to the store, and get some ice cream with the money his parents left. His parents decided to leave him alone for a night to go away for their honeymoon.
They had said to him, “David, you’re old enough to stay home alone for a night. Just no parties. We’re going to leave you some money to order a pizza, and get a snack from the store.”
“Ok mom I'll be fine." David said back.
As if anyone was around for him to invite anyway. He left for the store twenty minutes after his parents left.
He was eating his rocky road ice cream when he heard a noise coming from the house to his left. He heard what sounded like to men arguing quietly. He creeped around the side of the house and stopped when he heard the voices again.
“We have to be quieter when we're doing this stuff Michael!”
“Don't use my name, dumbass!”
David tried not to laugh. These people sound like idiots.
He decided to risk a peek around the corner of the house, but right after he did he wished he hadn't. He saw two men, one with a big television under one hand, and a wallet in the other. The other man had a video game system in one hand, and a phone in the other. The window behind them was smashed.
What he heard next made his body freeze. “Let’s rob that brick house on the next street over today”
David realized that those were his neighbor that lived in the brick house. He was taking care of their house while they were on a cruise. He had to do something about this. He raced out of there, dropping his ice cream along the way.
David ran to his house and called the sheriff of the town. He told him to hurry and get to his house. When the sheriff arrived, he looked very tired. He told David his shift was over in ten minutes, and that he was up all night.
“Make this snappy,” he told David.
David told the sheriff there's going to be a robbery at his neighbors today. He heard the sheriff drive to the house, but he would not go in the backyard. The sheriff told David he did not have a search warrant to legally search their backyard, but the sheriff waited in front of David neighbors’ house, for ten minutes before finally telling David not to waste his time. David was outraged, and tried to convince him to stay, but the sheriff left. David ran to his house, and looked up to see if police were allowed to go into your backyard. It said that the police could if they see or witness a crime near your house. David ran back out to tell the sheriff to look at the broken window, but he was gone. David realized he had to do something, for the crooks would be their soon. There was no one he could call, since everyone was away. He had heard about a kid who had to defend his house from crooks. Why didn't he do the same thing? He had the key to his neighbors house.
He got to work right away. He took supplies from his house and brought them to his neighbors. When he was in there garage, he saw a fishing net. David said to himself “This could be helpful”.
The time was three thirty when he heard a car driving up to his neighbors. He looked through the blinds and saw the same two guys with crowbars. His traps were in place, and now all he had to do was wait. He saw one of them go through the back, and the other go to the garage. David had hoped they would go their. The crook at the garage looked like the man Michael. He looked at the door for a minute, and attempted to open it. David had left it unlocked for a reason. The crook opened it, and stepped in side. The crook bumped into a wire pulled across the entrance to the garage, triggering one of those toy halloween skeletons to swing down. Its eyes were glowing red, and it made a shrieking noise. The crook veered back, but tripped. He smacked in to the ground, and yelled “OUCH.”
David snickered and went to the back door to see what the other crook was up to. When David creeped through the house to the back door he saw that the crook was heading up the backstairs when the crook was almost to the top of the stairs he stepped in some kind of sticky paste the crook looked down then he heard the door open he looked up to see a boot on a string right in his face. He was flung back of the stairs and out of his shoes. He looked up groggily to see the door slam shut and lock. Direct hit David thought. He knew that they were go to meet back up because they knew someone was in the house. David hoped they would give up and get discouraged.
He heard the crooks whisper yelling to each other
“Michael what are we gonna do” one said “let's get that kid and don't use my name”.
David realized they were now coming in together through the front door but he was ready for them. They crept through the front door as they scoped out the house David watched from the front door As they entered the living room he pressed the button that made the doors in the living room shut the first door as one crook entered the room. The other crook was locked out of the room. The one outside of the room started to look around well the one trapped in the living room was yelling for help. David decided to make his move he yelled for the burglar outside the living room. He turned and stared at David for what felt like years then David yelled “Come get me”
David turned and ran up the stairs but he tripped and bashed his leg he cried out but the crook had caught up he pushed David against the wall the crook said “well what I caught, you pest”
David tried to yell but the crook had his over his mouth. David though it was over he felt sick to his stomach and was feeling dizzy. He said to himself “Is this how David goes out”
Right as he thought he was going to faint he heard a yell he opened his eyes to see his friend Kelsey standing in the door of the house yelling the crook was looking at her she then said she going for the police. That was it the crook dropped David and ran after her. David sat there slumped there he realized he had to finish this once and for all. He got up and ran up the stairs and waited he hoped Kelsey had not been caught. He heard the crook come back in the house breathing heavily David yelled a him that he was calling the police. The crook sprinted up the stairs. The burglar heard Davids voice down the hall behind a door. He sprinted down the hall threw open the door and ran strait in only to realize there was no floor! It turns out that they were redoing their bathroom. He fell down and banged into the floor he groaned and slowly opened his eyes to the noise of growling. He looked around to see the three dogs in a big kennel that looked to be unlocked. He got up to open the kennel just to get bit by one of the three dogs around him. He realized he was not going anywhere.
David had one of them but maybe only for a short time he didn't know how long the dogs would hold the attacker back. The other attacker was slamming the door in the room he was trapped in with a chair. David decided it was time to let him out. He pressed the button to open the door the crook stepped out on the rug just to step onto legos spread out under the rug he yelled and ran across them just to get hit with a fishing net from there garage the burglar was caught in it he struggled but he got more tangled up.
David grabbed the toy handcuffs he had and put them around the struggling burglar he recognized as michael. After that he went to look at the other burglar, he was cowered in the corner surrounded by the three dogs. Then he heard the police siren he realized Kelsey must have called the police to the house.
It was over in a flash the police arrested the crooks instantly. They found the items from the robbery David had seen early. Kelsey had come home from summer camp early because Her dad was sick. Her dad was asleep so she was coming to see David to check in and she saw the door open. David thanked her profusely. David was asked a few questions but it was clear that the crooks were in trouble. David tried to help the police by saying that the one crook was Michael. The cop said “oh we know who these people are it's Michael Ericks and Gordon Edward, famed burglars traveling from state to state robbing houses”
. David laughed to himself. He had caught the crooks himself. The time the police left was around seven. He went home and just played video games till 2am then David collapsed into bed and fell asleep. He woke up at ten. He parents got home at two in the afternoon. He told them everything that had happened. when he was done telling them what had happened it was three. His parents panicked and contacted the police his dad was freaking out. And well for David he went down stairs and played some more video games
