During this unit of Language Arts, the Prodigy students have completed the process of creating and publishing short stories. We started off the process by reading "The Most Dangerous Game;" this helped us get a good understanding of what a short story looked like. The next step was choosing a topic. We picked between a variety of story starters. Then we wrote the beginnings of a couple stories and choose our favorite one to be our short story. After that the class worked on the setting, character development, story structure, descriptive words, and symbolism using graphic organizers. Through this section of the process we looked back at "The Most Dangerous Game" for examples and guidance. The last step was peer reviews and final touches, we did two peer reviews. One of the per reviews was on grammar and the other was on content. After we got our feedback we made our final touches and were ready to move onto the website.
Everyone was divided into team to work on the website, graphic organizers, editors, photographers, publicity, and project managers. By doing this we were able to divide and conquer the website efficiently and effectively.
Short story: An invented prose narrative shorter than a novel usually dealing with a few characters, aiming at unity of effect and often concentrating on the creation of mood rather than plot.
