A voice comes over the loudspeaker, 5 minutes of extra time! It’s the Champions League finals and the game is tied. Lukaku dribbles up the field, but takes a nasty tackle from behind and slams his head on the ground. The crowd erupts at the referee because there was no call, things are being thrown on the field. the trainers take him off of the field to check for a concussion, as the coach scrambles to find a replacement. Christian gets the spot on the field because he is lightning fast, and the coach is hoping he can break through the defense.
There’s a free kick and the center midfielder Paul Pogba takes an excellent shot at goal. Despite this, the keeper catches the ball with ease. They quickly go on the counter attack and take a 27 yard shot going top left, but De Gea’s reactions and size allows him to tip it away to the right back who sends it up the wing to Christian. He weaves back and forth through the defenders looking for a pass. No one is there for support, so he takes it up the field himself.
One defender, two defenders he flys by them both and is one on one with the goalie, the keeper is rushing off his line cutting down the angle but Christian slots it bottom right and the stadium erupts with excitement! The referee blows his whistle, the game is over and Manchester United have won the Champions League finals! Everyone tackles Christian to the ground even coach Mourinho leaps onto the pile with glee.
Later that day Christian went home to celebrate with his wife Sarah, and his two children Marcus and Holly. They all had baked him a cake to celebrate, but the big celebration was tonight. His team has put together a dinner to celebrate the victory over Chelsea. He took his wife with him and left Marcus at home to watch after Holly. Marcus is 17 and Holly is 9, During the dinner some drunk Chelsea supporters are ticked of by the defeat and catch Christian on his way to the bathroom.
Christian was caught off guard by the two men and they tackle him to the ground, he tried to fight back but these men were both taller than him, and the same build. by the time the men had left Christian had Broken three ribs, his left leg and had sustained major organ damage. After about twenty minutes later his teammates went in to see if he was all right but ended up finding him unconscious on the floor.
Christian was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, his wife went to get their children but when they arrived back at the hospital with bad news. The doctors said that he wouldn't be able to live through tomorrow in the state he is in. His family was terrified with the news they begged for him to do something but the doctor said there is nothing they can do. It was all over the news and everyone all throughout the world was praying for him, but Christian died early afternoon the next day with his family next to him.
For Marcus this was terrible he has always wanted to be like his dad and with his tryouts for the last remaining spot for his dads team coming up he had to make it, his dad was his motivation but without his dad anymore is it worth it? He dreamed about how proud his dad would be when he had made the team but just like that, he’s gone and will never see him again.
That weekend Marcus could barely get himself around for soccer practice, he played so poorly on the field and barely spoke to anyone, but his rival Danny Alves seems to be playing in top form. He found himself slacking because it just didn’t feel right. That night he watched the tape of his dad’s final game, he started to get teary when he walked on the field. He continued to watch through squinted eyes, it brought him joy watching his dad score the winning goal.
As Christian celebrated he ran over to the camera and mouthed the words, “That was for you Marcus.”
It was at that moment that he realized he was ok. Knowing that even though his father isn’t there to show Marcus he is proud of him, he knew his father would've been proud.
Later that night he and his friends were at a local field knocking a ball around. His friends noticed Marcus had gotten style back. They were laughing and having a good time again and Marcus really enjoyed it.
Marcus woke up to his alarm clock, Beep beep beep, beep beep beep. He needed to get ready for his soccer practice. He had asked his coach to push him harder than ever before for that month, because he had tryouts for Manchester United in two days, and it meant everything to him.
The next night at dinner Marcus, Holly and his mom Sarah all sat around the table and prayed before they ate. They prayed that Marcus would make the team and have a successful career. Then they had a wonderful feast that his mom made from memory. She first made it when she was little, a colorful palette of carrots and beans, with turkey and gravy. She thought that if he ate well he would play well also.
At the tryouts Marcus showed his dominance on the field, the scouts were all focused on him. Even with that, Marcus was taken out of the scrimmage so that they can see other players. He was worried and thought that he had done something wrong, despite the fact that he knew he was playing well.
When he got home he told his family how it went and waited by the phone hoping that he would receive a call asking him about joining the team. He waited for about 30 minutes before he dozed off in his chair, but got woken up to the sound of ring ring, ring ring. He lunged for the phone hoping he would hear the sound of his future team managers voice. When he did he bursted into tears.
While his mom and sister came running downstairs, the manager asked, “Mr. Rashford I thought you played exceptionally today at tryouts and would like to offer you a spot on our starting eleven”
Marcus started crying even more now, he replied,“Yes It would be an honor to play for your team”
Marcus set down the phone and started celebrating with his family, it was the happiest day of his life. Not to mention he would be on the starting eleven! They went out shopping to get Marcus a nicer pair of cleats for the season friendly against their rival Manchester City.
The next day he walked into the locker with bright eyes everyone greeted him kindly welcoming him on the team, they then went through an easy practice because of their game the next day Marcus could barely sleep because of his excitement.
Saturday morning, it was Marcus’s first game with his new team a they were in the locker room their coach ran through a pep talk to get some blood flowing. But Marcus really felt complete when he first stepped on the field, all the fans cheering waving flags around made him feel so happy.
Tweet, the referee blew his whistle the game had started off slow but Zenit was able to put one away against the Man U squad right before halftime. But things were looking good for them in the second half they moved the ball fast down the field and got a cross in to Lukaku who headed it in. everyone was on their feet cheering for the top class goal, the game is now tied with 7 minutes left the fans are worried because the minutes are counting down, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, the ball is passed again to Lukaku who waits as Marcus makes an overlapping run up the field. Lukaku makes a beautiful pass right in front of Marcus, he beats his defender and is coming up on the goal, takes a 20 yard shot and curled it top right!
The referee blows the whistle, the crowd roars, and Marcus runs towards the corner flag pointing to the sky in honor of his dad before the rush of his teammates comes and hoists him in the air celebrating.
Marcus goes on to have a successful career winning multiple ballon d'ors, he had two kids with his wife Alicia, they named their daughter Mary and their son Christian.
