I thought of all the failed rebellions as we cruised toward America. Billy and Bob were piloting the submarine, while Joe was going through the cupboards in the kitchen looking for food as always. Henry just laid in his bed reading his bible. My name is Tanya Smith, and I am definitely questioning my decision to join the rebellion to fight against America.
When the sub lurched forward, it sent Joe nose first into his jar of peanut butter. I fell forward and saw Henry skipping off the floor, but then I dented my bedframe with my head. Seeing spots and tasting copper, I crawled to the front of the sub. At the front was Billy scrambling around the control deck trying to find out what happened, while Bob was laying on the ground with a shard of glass protruding from his temple. “What happened to him?” I said. “I don’t know,” Billy said, “he must have hit a button or something. “
Billy fiddled with the controls trying to raise the sub so the damage could be determined. We all got our dive suits and oxygen tanks on. As the sub got farther up, the ocean began to clear and I could see what had hit us, it ended up being a sunken ship with multi-colored coral on it. There was fish swimming near it and among those fish, there were a few sharks.
The surface was getting close when the motor stopped. We were right where we were before sinking into the ocean when Joe opened the hatch and the water rushed in toppling him away. The water was up to my neck by the time I understood what he was thinking. As the water rose above my chin, I put on my mask and slipped into the icy cold water.
The others had managed to get their masks on, but Joe was nowhere in sight. We pulled ourselves towards the hatch using whatever we could to fight against the current. It was a struggle and every now and then someone would lose their grip and they would tumble back to the end of the sub and have to start over again, but we made it out and made sure that everyone was alright as we watched the submarine fall. When the sub hit the ship, it caused multiple reactions of fear in the small fish and excitement of the sharks at the proposal of a new meal.
As the sharks streaked up towards us like lightning bolts we scattered hoping to confuse the sharks. It worked for about ten seconds before they figured out what was happening. They split up and started chasing after they had a target.
The sharks seemed to be used to smaller animals because they seemed to underestimate our will to survive, so we used that to our advantage and zigzagged, divided, turned around, and hit them with our metal oxygen tanks.
But they seemed to figure us out pretty quickly. All of a sudden they all grouped up on Billy, who was farthest away from us and attacked as one. He had no chance. They took about a minute to devour him. While eating, they fought with each other and eventually killed two of their own. Which then caused another feeding frenzy. We used this to our advantage and swam as far away as we could, but eventually they stopped eating and chased after us.
They reached Henry first and dragged him into the abyss. By the time they were done only one came up. This one seemed overconfident. He swam lazily toward me almost as if it knew that the fight was over and that I was done. As the shark got within ten feet from me it started to circle me. Then it pounced. The last thing I remember was the water slowly turning from a light blue to a deep red.
