My brother Nic and I were going to grandma’s house for the week because my mom and stepdad were going on a week trip. Once we got there it smelled like peanut butter and old spice, not the best combination.
“Hello… oh, hi, Grandma” I said.
“Oh hello dear,” She said.
She took us to the spare room where there were two twin beds setup for a five year old.
“Boys, do you want anything to eat?” She asks.
“No, we just ate.” I said. I looked at the open attic ladder.
“Why is the attic open?” I asked.
“I’m cleaning it out, want to help?”
“Yeah!” I said.
I climbed up the ladder and saw a lot weird stuff, like an old tv and what looked like old family videos. After a few minutes I called my grandma.
“Hey Grandma when are you going to come here?” I said.
“In a minute!” She responded.
After ten minutes she finally came up.
“Dear, can you take this?” She said.
“Yeah of course. What are they?”
“Old books from your father,” she said.
“Oh,” I said.
“How about you go and look at them,” My grandma encourages.
“Ok!” I said.
I went to my bed started looking at the books. All of the books were Jules Verne novels like 20,000 leagues, Under The Sea and The Mysterious Island. All books that my father used to read to me. At the bottom there was an old book called For My Son. I picked it up the dusty book. I blow it off and opened to the first page. I saw a picture of my dad with Uncle Pete with some old statues.
I continue to look threw the book there was a ton of things that I never knew about. I wish my dad was still alive so we could go on a adventure. I flipped to the last page. The page was entitled ‘Tonga’ but it was empty. The only thing on the page was a map of tonga with a red X in the middle. There was one more adventure that he didn’t go on. We have to find what was at that X.

The waves were crashing up against the the side of the small fishing boat.
“I think that we have to do east.” I said.
“Ok.” said Nic.
I looked to the to my left and say what looked like a boat.
“Hey!” I said. “is that a boat?”
“No.” said Nic, “I don’t think so.”
When we got to the island there was a big mountain. I knew that's where the treasure was.
“I think that mountain is where the treasure is.” I said.
“Ok let's get going!” said Nic.
We set out on our three day journey to the mountain. Once we got there I knew that we were in the wrong place. The map looked nothing like the top of the mountain.
“We are in the wrong place.” I said.
“But you said it would be here!” said Nic.
“Well, I’m sorry that I didn’t know if…” I said.
“If what!” said Nic.
“In that cave!” I said.
I frantically pointed to the cave off to the left.
We walked to the cave and there was a sign that read: Danger! People who enter will see a fate worse than death!
Completely ignoring the sign, we walked in. It was so musty that we couldn’t breathe. We continued to walk until we came to a big wooden door that was locked.
“How are we going to get in?” I said.
I looked behind me and saw Nic running at me with a wooden pole.
“What are you doing?” I said.
“Getting in,” said Nic.
Nic proceeded to ram into the wall. It absolutely did nothing.
“Wow,” I said, “that was great.”
“Shut up,” said Nic.
“Over there in that hole in the wall,” I said.
“A key,” said Nic.
He opened the door. All I heard was a loud creak. We walked into the dark cave hearing nothing but the sound of our own footsteps.
“Hey… where are we?” said Nic.
“In the cave.” I said sarcastically.
We continued to walk through the cave until we came to a cavern filled with gold. There is a underwater tunnel that seemed to lead to outside of the cave.
“This must be what Drad was trying to find! Fill you bag with gold.” I said.
“Be careful. What if it is boobytraped?” said Nic.
Then I heard the sound that changed my life.
Bang and after bang.
I looked over to my left to find Nic. He was on the ground scared out of his mind. Finally the door gave to the intruders.
Three guys ran into the room with guns shooting. As soon as they saw us they started to shoot. I ran over to Nic. The guys had shot him in the arm. He was bleeding on the ground.
“Nic are you ok?” I said.
“Nathan, run. Go on without me. I’m not going to make it,” Nic said.
“You’re gonna be ok. I know it.” I said to him as he took his final breath.
I grabbed my bag and ran as fast as I could.
Bang bang the bullets were flashing by me. I only had one choice. Swim out. I jumped into the the tunnel and swam for my life. I heard more gun shots, one after another. Once I got to the surface, I was on the other side of the island.
I swam to shore and ran through the jungle, dodging trees like barrels in Donkey Kong. Once I reached the fishing boat I drove as fast as I could. I knew that the world would never be the same after that day.

“Dad, where are you?” said Nathan's son Adam, “Dad?”
He walked around the house looking and didn’t find his dad. He continued to walk and found nothing.
“Dad?” said Adam.
He walked out of the house and ran over to his father's office and saw the old door that his dad never opened.
“Dad… I’m going to open the door of your office,” said Adam.
He walked over to the door and turned the handle. It was locked. He began to look for the key, and then he looked at a wooden box on the table. He walked to it and opened it. In the box there was a key shaped like a skull. He tried to unlocked the door, but it was stuck. He turned the key as hard as he could, and click, it opened with a hard creak.
“Adam, what are you doing?” I said
He looked at me with a dead face.
“Nothing,” said Adam
“I told you that my office is off limits,” I said.
“But, Dad,” said Adam.
“What’s in there, you aren’t ready for.”
He turned around and ran into the room and saw a chest. He opened it, and in was a old book that said, For My Son.
