The Mysterious Mansion
“Ah. Newcomers - welcome. My name is…”
Wait a minute... if I tell them...
“Never mind, names aren't important. I am here to tell you a story about the mansion you see in front of you. Do not enter because those who do, never return. Actually, on second thought, there was one group who survived - hehehe. Yes, those four, but who to follow. Oh I know, that Professor who hides from humanity he has a good reason to. Now come if you dare. I am the one who cursed this mansion, so listen to my tale. Afterward, you will want to avoid the mansion at all costs - hehehe.”
We start our story with Professor Z.
“Hmmm... this mansion is old, and it looks like it’s been abandoned for years,” said Z.
“Indeed it does, Professor.”
“What? Evelyn?” Screamed Z with shock.
I will interject right here to explain to you that Evelyn Lockhart is the Professor’s niece. Her father died when she was young and she was raised by Z. Now that you know that, back to the story.
“Yes uncle, I came. I’m not a child anymore. I can come with you on your expeditions, or is your work more important than the only living family member you have?” Said Evelin with a hint of anger in her voice.
“It’s not that you're not important. I’ll bring you next time. It’s just that this is way more dangerous than any old expedition,” said the Professor.
“You expect me to believe a ghost story?” Evelyn shouted with intense fury.
“Your uncle’s right. Everyone who has entered this house has gone missing. Hi, the name’s Joe Speedy.”
Joe Speedy was an athletic man and rather popular in his hometown, but he was always being shown up by his older brother.
“Hey guys, what are we talking about?”
“Did you bring a child?” Asked the Professor.
“Yep,” replied Joe.
“Hi. My name is Timothy Svengali”.
Timothy Svengal was a 13-year-old boy who is a friend of Speedy’s little brother. He came here on a dare given to him by his friends and has to spend a night in the mansion. I hope they said their last goodbyes.
“Look. If my work has told me anything it’s that ghosts, Zombies, skeletons, Frankenstein, and any other scary story creatures don’t exist” said Z.
“Then why can I not come in if none of those creatures exist!” Evelyn shouted the frustration still evident in her voice.
“Look at this mansion! Most of the windows are broken, the boards are rotting and the shingles are falling off the roof. It smells like thousands of mice died in these walls and it definitely needs a new coat of paint,” announced Joe Speedy “hehe not the time for jokes hey look my point is this is just the outside. The house is in horrible condition and falling apart. If there aren't ghosts and goblins inside the house, it just straight up isn’t safe. It probably looks even worse on the inside.”
“Ugh. Let’s just head inside,” said Timothy. “ It’s so cold I can see my breath and the air feels dead.”
“Right - but one thing. Joe, is that a camera?” asked Z.
“Yep. It’s how I’ll show my findings in this place,” replied Joe.
“That's what my notes are for. Still, I guess it won't hurt,” said Z.
When they went inside the mansion they were terrified at what they saw. Well, all except Z, of course. The room was dimly lit with puddles of blood all over. Blood was dripping from the ceiling suggesting that there was even more blood on the second floor. In the corner there was a table that was knocked over, a broken vase was next to it, and there was a severed finger in a plant pot.
“I think I’m gonna hurl,” said Evelyn.
“I’m not surprised,” said Z “What else did you think happened to all the people that disappeared? They obviously must have died. It’s not like they couldn't leave since the door was unlocked and from the looks of it, that door hasn’t been locked in years”.
“I'm not so sure they could leave,” argued Timothy. “Look.”
Sure enough, there was a broken lock on the floor. It looked like it had been repeatedly bashed with a rock in desperation to escape, or something else judging by the shards of bone next to it.
“We should move forward,” expressed Joe.
“Hold on,” interrupted Z, “Look at this.”
Professor Z pulled a piece of paper out of the pocket of his lab coat.
“What is it?” asked Evelyn.
“It’s a note,” said Z. “I’ll read it aloud.”
I’m sorry I couldn’t meet with you in person but I have work to do. Before I continue, this note is for your eyes only. Got it? I know what you want, Professor. You want fame and recognition, right? I’m sure that just like everyone in town, you know of the Willow Mansion - the one in the dense forest just outside of town on top of a lone hill. I am also sure you know the stories of how the owner cursed it when too many people came. In doing so he died now everyone who enters is cursed to suffer an unimaginable death inside its walls. and I know you won't accept an answer not backed up by science. Prove the mansion’s stories are not real and you'll get fame for expelling that myth. Signed Joe speed. P.s. don’t bring anyone else. If you do, one of them will change, and not from the ways in the stories. The mansion just has that effect on people.
“So - I think we should split up, ” explained Z.
“No way, We will lose our minds if we split up, this one room is enough proof of that,” stated Joe.
“What's that?” screamed Evelyn as she jumped behind her uncle.
A shadow walked up to them and they all reared back in fear and as the figure walked out of the shadows. They realized it was a dog. It looked beaten up like it had been through a lot its nose had a huge gash on it and it was missing its right eye. It instantly walked over to Joe as if it had seen him before.
“Ha!” Timothy laughed while pointing at Evelyn. “You hid from a dog - ha ha ha!”
Timothy would not stop laughing. Joe knelt down and petted the dog. Although it looked like it had just come from a fight, the fur coat was as soft as silk.
Professor Z kept suggesting they split up, but no one else agreed. They all said that they would go insane. The house had areas you would expect: a kitchen, dining room, living room, and it also had weirder areas that were used for who knows what. Things like graveyard a room that looked like it had been hit with a blowtorch, an infirmary covered in blood, and a room with blood on the walls floor and ceiling.
“Look,” said Evelyn.
She pointed to the dog, and it was standing next to a pile of dirt barking. “What's gotten into that mutt,” shouted Professor Z with rage. He didn’t like dogs all that much- or any pet for that matter. They needed a lot of attention and distracted him from his “important” work.
“Hey!” Shouted Joe and Timothy simultaneously. “The dirt pile is moving.”
As they watched in horror a green misshapen hand shot up. It was gross. Pieces it's of flesh were torn, and you could see right to the bone. There was no blood in it, but a few seconds later another hand shot up. Evelyn let out a high pitched scream as the creature’s head came out, and it groaned as it slowly pulled its body out of the ground. The dog ran back to Joe who tripped and was sent flying into the wall. When he hit the wall, it felt like a cushion. He tried to push himself off the wall, but then realized he was stuck and the wall was pulling him in.
“Help!” he screamed.
Timothy turned and ran towards the wall. He started trying to pull him out but it did not work. Joe kept slipping farther and farther until he was completely gone. The creature was out of the ground and walking towards them.
Whole chunks of flesh were missing. Its body was bent in ways a human body should not be, and Its fingers were broken. Its jaw was hanging open, it had no eyes, it’s flesh was green, and It walked slowly towards them with a limp.
Evelyn looked around and found a broken pipe on the floor. She ran over, grabbed it, and swung it at the beast. Its head flew clean off. The body collapsed for a second, then slowly got up and picked up its head.
Evelyn let out a shrill ear piercing shriek. The three of them ran. Timothy tripped and fell into an elevator. As Z and Evelyn looked the elevator left, and it turned into a room full of boxes.
“It looks like a storage room,” said Professor Z. The creature was nowhere in sight. Evelyn sat down.
“We lost two people already. How long has it been?”
“Not sure,” said the Professor.
Someone tapped Evelyn on the shoulder.
“Huh,” she said as she turned around.
“AHHHHH!” She let the scream leave her lungs as she realized the thing tapping her was a skeleton. It waved a greeting to her and that's when Evelyn noticed the dog was gone.
“He doesn't seem hostile,” said Z. “Oh well, I am continuing to explore.”
As Z left, the skeleton beckoned Evelyn over. She walked over and saw that it was pointing at a painting.
“Huh,” she said.
The painting was of a mustached man in armor, and he was holding the French flag.
“Is that you,” she asked inquisitively?
The skeleton nodded and started walking towards the corner of the room. He moved one of the boxes out of the way revealing a tunnel, and he once again beckoned Evelyn over, and lead her down the tunnel.
As Z walked he saw food on the table. It was pizza.
“What?” Z quietly asked himself as his stomach rumbled.
“Ugh, I need to eat something although not a part of my diet, there doesn't seem to be anything else to eat.”
As Z tasted the warm, greasy, gooey, pizza, it slid down his throat heating up his insides. It tasted far better than words can describe. With the events that were happening, this was certainly welcome. When he was no longer hungry he decided to go upstairs, and that's when he saw Joe and the dog.
“What?” said Professor Z. “I thought you were dead you were absorbed by the wall”.
“I did too!” exclaimed Joe “but then the dog and I arrived here on the second floor.”
Then, a panel of the wall swung open and the skeleton and Evelyn emerged running.
“Wh0at’s wrong?” asked Joe.
The skeleton pointed down the tunnel and Evelyn screamed: “run!”
As the two ran past, Z and Joe looked back and saw hundreds of zombies were getting closer to them. Joe and Z ran and ducked into a side room and caught their breath.
“Look,” said Joe he pointed to a black ski mask on the floor. He picked it up and raised it to his head.
“Stop!” shouted Z “DOT’T DO IT!”
He heard Evelyn's shrill scream like a macaw and thought that she might not make it out.
“Your niece is in danger,” said Joe “I can save her by using this mask”.
“No” said Z “that mask gives her less of a chance to live It does the same for all of us.”
Joe glared at him “No Professor you gave me less of a chance to live when you fired my father.”
“Joe that was years ago when I was young I was an idiot he was a great scientist, but what he wanted was insane.”
“All he wanted was a better future for his family.” Joe put on the ski mask and as he did he changed. “Ha ha ha ha ha ha you don’t know what this feels like having this kind of power!” He said.
“What are you talking about.”
“Oh, Professor can’t you feel the power? I can make your worst nightmares reality I can send this house into the abyss… and you with it ha ha ha!”
No what's happening? This was a trap for the Professor. I only wanted him dead to avenge my father! Why can’t I control my body? No... no, don’t do that ritual” Thought Joe in a panic.
“Joe, don’t do this!” exclaimed Professor Z.
“Joe is gone there is only his raw untamed rage,” said Joe as he knocked the Professor down. “Oh mighty cursor of this house, show the nonbelievers you exist! Prove their ways of science wrong!”
All of a sudden, the house started to rumble, and it tilted. Then all the survivors had a ritual to perform, and the three places it needed to be performed to stop the house from falling into the void they were the pentagram room, the crypt, and the chapel. I like to give all my victims a fair chance. Z ran out of the room then tripped and fell into a coal shoot.
“Whoa” screamed Z as he slid down and landed. He was on top of a pile of coal.
His lab coat was black with coal dust, as he got up he realized that the smell of the basement was just as putrid as a rotting corpse. The basements floor was as cold as metal in the winter. He walked out and looked into the room on his right he saw Timothy.
“What?” he quietly said to himself.
As Z walked into the room he realized there was a giant pentagram on the floor. The pentagram room! thought Z. When he finally heard what Timothy was saying, he realized it was the anti-ritual.
“oh, holy spirits give me a second chance at life and replace the pentagram seal.”
As he said it the rumbling of the house slowed down a bit.
“Good job,” said Z
“No problem” replied Timothy.
“We need to find the last two rooms,” said Z.
“Alright the chapel is on the main floor and the crypt on the second floor” whispered Timothy.
“Timothy how do you know that” choked Z.
“I found a map a few rooms down”.
When they left the void was catching up to them.
“Ah” they both let out a quick scream.
They ran for the elevator but Timothy tripped on a rock just before they reached it.
“Help me” he screamed the terror evident in his voice.
Z turned around looked at the boy and then jumped in the elevator. As soon as he stepped in it took him to the main floor.
Before it left he saw Timothy fall into the void the terror and pain in his eyes as he let out his final cry for help “help m…”
silent as he was swallowed by the void. on the main floor, he found Evelyn and discovered that she and the skeleton had done the ritual in the crypt which was the same but replaces pentagram with crypt. That meant the chapel was all that was left. The skeleton made a follow motion with its hand and so Z and Evelyn followed him. when they arrived at the chapel Joe Speedy was there still wearing the mask.
“Well well well,” he said as he pulled a dagger out of his pocket it was stained with blood
“Do you know what this dagger was used for?” said Joe.
“No” mumbled Evelyn with a hint of concern.
“I’ll tell you... it was used FOR SACRIFICIAL RITUALS AND IM GONNA USE IT ON Z HA HA HAAAA.”
“All right then come at me” ordered Z.
“fine, you asked for it you old…” Joe fell to the floor unconscious.
The skeleton was standing behind him holding a bat the dog growled and the skeleton turned and started his attack. as the two struggled to finish the other Z ran to the center of the room and ushered the words
“Oh, holy spirits give me a second chance at life and replace the chapel seal.”
The house stopped rumbling the dog looked back at his master who was coming to while unconscious. Evelyn had taken off his mask and, skeleton waved them goodbye and they headed for the door.
As they walked out the door Z turned back and saw another monster. It looked like the zombie that attacked them but it was wearing Timothy's clothes. As he stared at the creature and it’s cold dead expression it’s green oozing flesh the white soulless eyes it’s missing teeth and the mangled appendages it stared back at him it’s blank face seeming to say you could have saved me.
“Timothy” whispered the Professor.
But there was nothing he could do now. When they were outside there was a cool breeze it was warm nothing like the cold damp air that was there when they entered. Z saw Evelyn put her phone in her pocket.
“Who did you call” asked the Professor?
“The police” replied Evelyn “to take him away” she pointed to Joe.
“W-where's Timothy,” Joe asked the concern evident in his voice
“Um mumbled” the Professor
“Where is he” screamed Joe.
“He died!” shouted the Professor with no hint of sympathy, “He died because of the void scheme you killed him.”
“N-n-no it it can’t be” stammered Joe “it’s all my fault I killed him.”
when the police arrived and arrested Joe he did not put up a fight. Evelyn and the Professor walked home. As they did, the Professor looked back at the mansion “huh” he said to himself as he saw that the mansion was on its side.
When the Professor returned to his lab he gave up this chance at fame.
“Hopefully I don’t get dragged to court for this one” he muttered “and to show my respect for Timothy these notes will never see the light of day” he quietly promised to himself locking the notes in a safe “I already destroyed the footage and now I will make sure the fate that came to Timothy never befalls my niece.”
