So far I have done thorough research on all 17 sdgs and even though I knew of sdgs since my freshman year I hadn't really gotten a deeper understanding of them until recently. They are all very important issues that need to be fixed, and possible to be fixed, but the ones that really stuck out to me were Zero hunger, Quality Education, & Clean Water and Sanitation. Zero hunger really stuck out to me the most because i've seen malnourished kids as young as 4 years old who ask for money and food everyday in Senegal. A child ,nonetheless a person, should not have to wonder how they're going to eat every single day. Quality Education is also a big issue because there could be so much potential in one person if only they had the right and good resources. The world could become a better place if more people were taught well. Clean Water is important because we need that to survive and every person on this earth deserves that.
The issue that I narrowed it down to was Zero Hunger because 700,000 low income Ohio households could see big cuts to the food stamps program in July as Covid pandemic aid expires. Rising costs for housing, utilities, prescription drugs, and low paying wage are all making it worse. So I was thinking about going to a local pantry in Fairfield and helping supply fresh foods. I can help by getting a group of people and organizing days to go volunteer.
Hunger is a problem everywhere around the world, but it affects low income people the most. The DRC (democratic republic of congo) is the most affected from hunger in the world. The place I saw it first hand was when I visited senegal and little kids who lived in an orphanage/mosque came up to my grandma's door every single morning asking for bread or coins. Hunger has always been an issue and especially now due to prices rising. According to Feeding America, about one in eight people in the buckeye state faces hunger every day. While food pantries can often be used as a solution, they’re not the only way to feed those in need. I chose this issue because Hunger is one of the biggest problems worldwide. This is also an issue where we as people can help. We may not be able to cure the problem everywhere but there's always somewhere nearby or organizations that you and help or donate to . I want to help the people around me the best way I can. I don't see homeless people around where I live because they tend to go somewhere busy like intersections on roads or downtown. Everywhere i've traveled I have seen homeless people and homelessness is a problem I cant fix especially as a high schooler but when they are out on the street asking for money they tend to ask it for food so the next solution I believe is hunger.
