Children learn best when they feel good about themselves and their relationships with others.
Children who understand their feelings are better able to control their behavior.
We know that stress can affect focus and learning, but its impact can be reduced with proven self-regulation strategies.
Schools, parents and communities that communicate and collaborate provide the most effective support to children.
Attitudes formed during elementary school shape future attitudes towards learning, self and society.

How do I request for you to meet with my child?
Call (317-896-4700, ext 17006), email (NewmanN@wws.k12.in.us) or send a note with your child! Your child's teacher can also refer students to meet with me.
What does "short term" individual counseling mean?
I can work with students on specific skill sets for typically about six sessions or less. If long term counseling that requires a licensed mental health therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist is needed, I can provide list of WWS recommended resources.
Can you tell me what my child shared in your visit with him/her?
When a child talks with me, the information shared is confidential. As I explain to the students, what they share with me is private. It's not secret, but it stays between us unless: someone is hurting them, they are hurting themselves, or they are going to hurt someone else. If I have information I think is important for the parent/guardian to hear, I typically tell/ask the student that I will be sharing the info with that person. Often times students will bring home the work we are doing together in order to facilitate a discussion at home.
