Science on Saturdays Lecture Series Returns to PPPL
Curious about lasers, biodiversity, animal-inspired engineering, or fighting cancer with the body’s own immune system? The Ronald E. Hatcher Science On Saturday Lecture Series has the answers. This annual lecture series geared toward high school students is hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), now celebrating its 75th anniversary. Check the PPPL Website or this Newsletter. If attending in person, students will need to be accompanied by an adult. Recordings will be posted about a week after the lecture if students are unable to attend in person.
Terra North Jersey STEM Fair
The TNJSF is a non-profit organization dedicated to support, encourage, and recognize student curiosity and involvement in scientific research and innovation. TNJSF is affiliated with the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
This opportunity is a high school science competition where students present a wide variety of projects from all areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Two divisions are being offered: Experimental Research and Topic Presentations.

Northern Highlands will be hosting an in-person Summer 2026 Artificial Intelligence Program through Inspirit AI, developed and taught by Stanford and MIT alumni. The program will run Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 24, weekdays only, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
The program is open to all Bergen County students, grades 6 (entering) through 12 (exiting).
The program is open to students entering grades 6 through graduating seniors and includes 30 hours of hands-on, project-based learning in AI. Students will explore foundational AI concepts, gain insight into generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, learn introductory Python programming, examine ethics and bias, and complete a collaborative group project. No prior experience is required.

Does your student love to tinker, solve problems, or think creatively? The Cardinal STEM Challenge is a design competition where Westwood students take on real-world problems, invent solutions, and showcase their ideas in a science fair–style event for families, teachers, and the community. This year’s design briefs include: Backpack Fix – redesigning backpacks to be lighter, safer, and more organized, and Wildlife Dilemma – creating solutions that protect animals while keeping people safe. Students will work in teams of 1–5, bring their ideas to life, and present them on December 10, 2025.
