Westwood Regional H.S.

Reopening

We are entering an unprecedented time of learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Much like our students, parents, and community members, the WRHS staff shares in your concern for the well-being of our community. This concern is especially geared towards that of our students and staff. As such, our administrators are here to help alleviate your concerns as much as possible. We ask that you bear in mind that we, too, are adapting as we navigate these uncharted waters and adhere to the ever changing educational parameters set forth by the New Jersey Department of Education and relevant health organizations.

As we begin this new school year, we ask that you thoroughly read the entirety of the sections below as it relates to the anticipated learning environment. Please keep in mind that this website is a working document and can be changed as the year goes on. Any significant changes will be added to this website and included in my weekly update. Email Mr. Connelly (frank.connelly@wwrsd.org) if you would like your child to switch from remote to hybrid or hybrid to remote.

All efforts will be made to provide live-stream opportunities for students who are remote to participate in instruction synchronously (specified time).

MORNING:

  • In-Person: Students who attend in-person will receive live instruction from their teacher following the four period schedule outlined above.

  • Remote: Students who are remote, regardless of full time or the hybrid group that are home, will receive a combination of the lesson being delivered to ALL students via zoom and/or delivered to the group that is “in-person” that day along with assignments delivered via google classroom to those that are remote.

AFTERNOON: (The afternoon sessions will be consistent for ALL students)

  • The two afternoon classes will be delivered remotely via zoom and include ALL students (Groups 1, 2 in-person and fully remote students). ***The classes on Friday afternoon will be science labs only. Example: If periods 1 and 2 meet on Friday afternoon, students will only meet with their teachers on that Friday afternoon if they have a period 1 or 2 science class with a lab.

Basic etiquette for online learning

  • Students are required to be present online at the start of the class when instructed to do so (your video will start automatically upon entering the room and should remain on for the duration of the lesson unless instructed to do otherwise).

  • Find a quiet place conducive to learning (i.e. away from family, pets, and television).

  • Be respectful and appropriate when speaking and writing.

  • Dress appropriately - remember your classmates and teachers can see you; dress as if you are in class.

  • Remain muted until there is a need to speak or ask a question.

  • Refrain from eating or drinking on camera.

  • Remain in one place for the entirety of the lesson.

  • Do not share screenshots of virtual meetings where student or teacher images are displayed.

  • Chat should be used for academic purposes only.
