Service Hours

The NHS’s primary focus is service. You are expected to perform a minimum of 10 hours of service each quarter. This includes five (5) school-related service hours and five (5) non-school related service hours. These hours must be reported via the "Service Hours Log" by the dates noted below, before the end of each marking period. 

In-school hours consist of activities performed to help the school such as:

• • Tutoring*(tutoring must be approved; helping a sibling or neighbor does not count unless preapproved)

  • Working a fundraiser

  • Book fair

  • Blood drive

Out-of school activities include working with clubs and religious organizations, helping the elderly, volunteering for a recognized service organization. 

If you are unsure about your hours, check with the advisor. A lack of required hours is grounds for dismissal from the NHS
