If the applicant is a Junior…
1. Must have completed the following English courses at WRHS:
i. English I or English I Honors
ii. English II or English II Honors
2. Must be enrolled in at least one of the following courses for junior year:
i. English III Honors
iii. Advanced Placement English Language and Composition
3. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
4. Must have at least a 3.7 English-content GPA
5. Must demonstrate regular attendance, including good standing with regards to tardiness
If the applicant is a Senior…
1. Must have completed the following English courses at WRHS:
i. English I or English I Honors
ii. English II or English II Honors
iii. English III or English III Honors or Advanced Placement English Language and Composition
2. Must be enrolled in at least one of the following courses for senior year:
i. English IV Honors
ii. Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition
3. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
4. Must have at least a 3.7 English-content GPA
5. Must demonstrate regular attendance, including good standing with regard to tardiness
Membership Requirements
Membership is on a year-to-year basis. As such, all members must:
1. Show active participation in at least one school-related activity, such as Newspaper Club, academic tutoring through the National Honor Society, varsity sports, marching band, etc.
2. Attend all monthly WRHS meetings and the yearly induction ceremony.
3. Participate in one service or volunteer event annually to maintain active status.
Character Criteria
These are some examples, not a checklist of criteria, but not limited to:
The candidate of character:
upholds scholarship and shows loyalty to the school
demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability, including integrity in the production of original work
complies with school rules
takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously
exemplifies desirable qualities of personality (cheerfulness, friendliness, poise)
upholds principles of morality and ethics
shows concern and respect for others
observes instructions and rules both inside and outside the classroom
perseveres in all commitments
Students’ disciplinary records will be reviewed from the time period of 9th grade through the current grade of application. Students must be in good disciplinary standing for consideration for entry to NEHS.
As a reminder, all incidents involving academic integrity are reported to the principal and recorded as part of a student’s disciplinary record. The student may be removed or barred from holding or being a candidate for any leadership position where character, honesty, or integrity are stated or implied qualifications, including athletic teams and clubs. Additionally, the student may be denied or lose membership in the National Honor Society, subject-area honor society, student council, and as a peer leader.
