My name is Lauren Velten, it is an honor to be a part of Berkeley School! I look forward to starting my 15th year of teaching. More importantly, I am thrilled to be your child’s Resource Room Teacher. I look forward to sharing a year filled with learning and new adventures. I am so excited for what the year has in store for all of us. This year I will be teaching grades 1-4 in ELA and Math.
I am a graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas College. I majored in elementary education and continued my studies at Montclair State University, where I received my master's degree in Special Education. I started my career as an inclusion teacher before transitioning into a self-contained setting. Most recently, I was the resource room teacher for primary grades. In 2017, I attended Fairleigh Dickinson University for a Dyslexia Specialist Certificate using the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is an explicit, direct, multisensory, structured, phonetic approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling.
In my spare time, I enjoy running, reading, biking, tennis, movies, and the beach. My little sister and I love spending time together each year at the US. OPEN, apple picking, and biking on Long Beach Island.
