Dear Parents and Community Members:
Welcome to the Mathematics & Business Education Department at the Westwood Regional School District!
At WWRSD, all K-5 students use enVisionMATH Common Core Realize . enVisionMATH emphasizes conceptual understanding, procedural skills and fluency and application of concepts in real-world, problem-solving situations to address focus and coherence of standards across the grades. Students engage in the three stages of learning, concrete, visual and abstract as they develop understanding using multiple means of representation and expression.
At WRMS, the 6th and 7th Grade students use HMH Big Ideas Math as they explore, question, explain, and persevere in develop conceptual understanding and procedural fluency on grade level proficiencies as described in New Jersey’s Student Learning Standards. Standards for Mathematical Practices and grade-level content are intertwined to foster greater understanding of mathematics and an opportunity to develop the habits of mind that proficient students demonstrate.
At WRHS, students continue their study of mathematics using HMH Big Ideas Math for Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. Students engage in problem solving and math tasks in a technology rich environment with opportunities to develop key mathematical practices of reasoning and modeling in authentic real world settings. Following Algebra 2, the Mathematics Department offers a wide range of electives including Precalculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science, Discrete Math, Probability, Trigonometry and Advanced Algebra.
