Absentees, Tardiness, and Dismissal

Please email us (and call/email) Ms. Gonzalez if your child is going to be absent/tardy/or being picked up early. Notify the school in advance if your child is going to be absent due to a vacation.

If your child is late, please have him/her go to the Office immediately for a late pass. School begins promptly at 8:55 a.m.

Please make sure that you sign your child out in the Main Office if you are picking him/her up early for any reason.

Homework

The primary purpose of homework is to encourage your child to be responsible and to reinforce concepts taught in class. Homework is due the following morning, unless otherwise noted. The students are responsible for checking the homework sheet on the website daily. If your child is unable to access the computer that evening, he or she may write down homework when it is being reviewed or he/she may print the homework sheet in school.

Homework is usually given Monday-Thursday and assignments typically include: a math reinforcement page, one vocabulary activity, reading for 20 minutes along with a response, and writing for 10 minutes. Assignments in other subjects will vary. Students may have homework over the weekend. Homework should take your child 45-60 minutes nightly.

Please help in making homework a positive experience as it instills responsibility, organizational skills, and develops study habits.

Homework Folder

Please check your child's homework folder periodically. Most of the assignments in fifth grade are completed on the computer so you may not see too many paper assignments. However, there are often there are important papers enclosed, including tests that need to be signed, and important notices from the teacher or principal. The children have been informed that their folders should be emptied nightly with the exception of returned notices, homework, etc.

Dress Code & Clothing

There will be daily outdoor recess before lunch, weather permitting. Please send your child to school with warm attire during the winter months. Labeling clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes, and personal items is very helpful.
