developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships
developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations;
solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume
drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
Math 7 is a key program designed to help all students achieve a better understanding of mathematics. It ensures an in-depth coverage of all grade level standards as well as a substantial amount of algebra and geometry. Successful completion of this course will provide students with a smooth transition into algebra next year.
One goal of this course is to investigate how mathematics is used to solve real-world problems. Many topics are connected to actual life situations enabling students to see the importance of math in their life. Math 7 strives to prepare students to think critically and develop and use problem-solving strategies. The course also builds a strong foundation for algebra and geometry as this is the key to success in future math courses. It is the overall goal Math 7 to provide students with opportunities to learn, enjoy, and appreciate mathematics for the important part that it plays in their lives.
