CPE Chemistry
Ms. Gilbert, Mr. O'Connor
Welcome Back.
Week 34: 5/6-5/10/24
Hi,
Well, that was a weird week. Between weird schedules, normal drops, and a random lockdown, I hardly saw some of you this week. We did get to do the ice cream lab on Monday before the crazy schedules.
This coming week, we’ll be finally wrapping up solutions. I would like to do one more lab for it. We’ll also be wrapping up the Hunting the Elements thing. So, please finish the video and come ready to take a short 10 q random quiz on google forms that is open note sheet.
You will also have that page reaction paper to write. Due date is Monday, but you should have much of Monday’s class to finish up anything you need to for that. You also have that short mini-project on solutions. Monday is the workday for that. Due date will be later in the week. (Let’s just go with Thurs.)
34 Weekly Assignment for Week of 5/6-5/10/24
Read 5 Steps Chem Ch 11 Energy and Disorder – Write 3 things you learned/want to learn in the coming unit.
Tentative Schedule:
Monday D Day – end Hunting of Elements (open notes q), rxn paper, miniproject workday.
Tues/Wed A and B day – rock candy lab; make sure you bring proper shoes! And wear lab appropriate shirts/pants … we will be working with boiling water.
Thurs C Day – start heat and energy unit
Fri D Day – specific heat and heating curves
Recap of due dates:
· If you missed the SGO periodic table reading, you’ll be taking that on Monday after Hunting the Elements q.
· Hunting elements open notes quiz = Monday in class, reaction paper = Mon afternoon, notes sheet Monday in class
· Solutions Mini-project (designed for about ½ hr) = Due Thurs – beginning of class. Some classes got it already, some never got it. … Sheet will be handed out Mon for those who didn’t get it.
Have a nice weekend.
Sincerely,
J. Gilbert
General Reminders:
· Sig figs don’t go away. If you did not do well on the quiz, please look over the classwork keys for that. Look over the zero rules. Moving forward, it won’t be quite so hard, but you do have to know how and when to round.
· When you are given class time to get work done, you are expected to use it. Unless the assignment in question is handed in, it is not considered done. “I left it at home” is a terrible excuse. Leave your work in your backpack after doing it at home.
· If you can’t handle having your phone with you, put it on my desk and pick it up later. Might save you some work at home.
· If you can’t work with certain people because they distract you, find a new group.
· If you are lost, come in for extra help.
