Math Information

Here are a few tips on how to be a successful Math student in 5th Grade:

Do Your Homework - Make sure you find a quiet place to do your homework. Homework counts towards your final grade. More importantly, it is imperative to practice your skills you learn in class at home so that you can gain a better understanding of those skills.

Be Active - Instead of trying to hide the fact that you don't know something, check your notes or in your textbook for some help. You can even ask a friend, classmate, teacher, or parent to help you.

Come to Class Prepared - Make sure you have your math materials including a sharpened pencil and an eraser. You will not be allowed to use pen in math and you are not allowed to go back to your homeroom. Being unprepared for class will result in a lower homework grade.

Study - Make sure you find which study method works best for you. It is important to study for math by practicing various problems learned in class. Do not just quickly look material over.

Problem Solve - If you got a problem wrong, make sure you check to see what your mistake was and fix your mistake. By problem solving, you will be more likely to remember how to solve a similar equation.

Stay Organized - Always write your homework down in your planner. When you finish an assignment, cross it out in your planner, put the homework in the correct section of your binder, and put everything in your backpack.

Check Over Your Work - Make sure you closely check over your work. On a test or quiz, it is a great idea to solve the problems twice (if time allows).

Use Scrap Paper - Make sure you use scrap paper and you write neatly when solving problems. Writing neatly will result in fewer errors.

Smile - Math can be very fun! It is exciting to learn concepts that you can use in your every day life :)
