What Is WBL?
Welcome to the Work Based Learning (WBL) web page. The WWHS program is designed to help senior students with the opportunity to prepare for a rapidly changing world. Students will be engaged in work experiences of their choice. WBL allows students to gain a competitive edge in their post-secondary transition. Students will gain hands-on experiences while gaining academic credits.
High School seniors that qualify may elect to participate in the Work Based Learning Experience Program on a full time (5 days a week) or a part time basis. WBL experiences are designed to be structured, supervised activities that may take place in a workplace. These supervised activities will assist students in clarifying career goals, explore career possibilities, develop employable skills, or make the transition between school and employment or further education and training.
WBL experiences are experiential, supervised educational activities designed to provide students with exposure to the requirements and responsibilities of specific job titles or job groups, and to assist them in gaining employment skills and making career and educational decisions. All WBL experiences must adhere to applicable state and federal child labor laws and other rules of the State Departments of Education and Labor.
WBL is designed for high school seniors who have selected their career path and would like to gain first hand experience, or students who wish to learn more about a specific area.
WBL are supervised and designed to provide students with exposure to the requirements and responsibility of a specific job.
WBL include, but are not limited to: apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing, cooperative education, and school-based enterprises.
WBL offers students a chance to go beyond the formal education of the classroom.
Students will have the opportunity to explore a career through a quality internship in an area that fits their interests and abilities.
WBL provides role models and individualized learning to prepare students for the professional work environment.
WBL experiences may be either paid or unpaid, depending on the type of activities in which the student is involved.
