Module 1 - Place Value Concepts 

Topic A - Students will use multiplicative comparison  (____ is 10x as many as ____) to show the relationship between place values

Topic B - Write and compare numbers using standard form (412), unit form (4 hundreds, 1 ten, 2 ones),  expanded form (400+ 10 + 2), and word form (four hundred twelve)

Topic C - Students will round numbers to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand using number lines

Topic D - Students will add and subtract multi digit numbers using the standard algorithm

Topic E - Students will convert metric units of length (cm/m/km) and volume (mL/L)

Unit 1

Skills students will be working on:

• How stories help to build identity

• Summarizing

• Character & Setting

• Analyzing perspective

•  Complete Sentences and fragments

• Personal Narrative essays

Students will also begin the novel Brown Girl Dreaming

Rocks, Soils, and Landforms

• This unit is comprised of 4 investigations, each ending with an "I-Check" assessment to monitor understanding. Soils, Rocks, and Landforms should last approximately August - early November

  • Students will be able to describe the composition of soil and how it is formed

  • Students will be able to explain the processes of erosion and whethering 

  • Students will be able to explain how land changes through slow and sudden processes
