What is 'Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead' in Catholic Education?

  • Formal recognition that all employees share in the responsibility of maintaining and growing the mission and purpose of Catholic education

In line with all Dioceses in New South Wales, there are five categories of accreditation: Categories A to E.

A description of each, with the minimum requirements at each level, are outlined in the Work Teach Lead Procedural Document

At minimum, Teachers are to be accredited at Category B - Casual Teachers do not have a WTL requirement.

Do I have to be Catholic to apply for a position with CEDWW?

To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school, it is generally expected that all teachers are of the Catholic faith and have an RE qualification, or a commitment to obtain religious education accreditation.

Religious Education Teachers and Senior Leadership Roles (in the Schools and Office) are designated roles within CEDWW that require an ‘essential criteria’ that includes 'a genuine commitment and support of the Catholic faith and active involvement in a local parish community'.

Involvement in local parish community can be demonstrated through evidence of baptism or reception into the Catholic Church. If you cannot provide a certificate, you should request a letter from the Parish Priest.

Other positions may not require the applicant to be Catholic. However, all staff are expected to fully support the Catholic ethos and values of the school, including participating in religious activities of the school.

What does it mean to agree to uphold the Catholic ethos?

Taken from Contract policy:

"To respect and give witness to the values and actions of the Christian way of life as you interact with others in your work."

Do casual employees have a requirement to be Catholic?

This is not a requirement, however all staff are expected to fully support the Catholic ethos and values of the school, including participating in religious activities of the school.
