Number Writing:
Have your child write numbers 1 to 30 or more. Again, don’t make it tedious, mix it up daily! Let them write in markers, crayons, chalk, paint, shaving cream, etc. Encourage them to make a color pattern—just keep it interesting, so that they will not dread writing.
Number Drawings/objects:
Pick a number of the day. Have your child write that number 5 times and then represent that number with drawings or objects. Example: Your child could draw 12 flowers or make 12 flowers with beans; Example 2: Your child could draw 8 dinosaurs or put 8 toy dinosaurs in a line.
Counting Practice:
Show your child a number 1 - 20. Ask them to count out that many (use bottle caps, cereal, whatever you have at home). Practice simple addition problems with different objects.
Shapes:
Ask your child to go on a shape hunt every day of the school week (Monday-Friday). Example: Can you find 3 different things around the house shaped like a circle. You can extend this understanding by having them draw an object with that shape, or you can have them take pictures of the different objects using a phone or I-pad.
Sorting:
Ask your child to sort objects based on different attributes (by shape, number of sides, color size, length, etc).
